Town of Garner Development Services Specialist (Permit Technician) in Garner, North Carolina

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | The Inspections Department is seeking a Development Services | | Specialist to provide assistance to the general public, contractors, | | builders, architects, and engineers. Primary responsibilities will | | include receiving, processing, and recording permit applications; | | processing customer payments; scheduling inspections; and preparing | | and maintaining computerized files and records. Work is performed | | under regular supervision. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Examples of Duties: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | - Assist the general public, contractors, builders, architects, | | andengineers | | - Serves as the primary front office contact for | | DevelopmentServices | | - Processes building permit applications using permit software. | | This includes issuing building permits and certificates of | | occupancy, collecting payments, and notifying applicants of | | deficiencies and permitstatus. | | - Proficiency using permitting and inspection software to: | | - Process building permit applications | | - Review applications for completeness, enters corrections | | required intosoftware | | - Compute and assess correct permitfees | | - Process electronic files, route to appropriate departments | | for review (Building, Fire Prevention, Engineering, Planning, | | Wake Health) | | - Initiate electronic planreview | | - Processtemporary certificates of occupancy (TCO), | | certificates of occupancy (CO), and certificates of | | completion (CC). | | - Process conditionalservices | | - Issue invoices/verifypayments | | - Issue permit and inspectioncards | | - Provide support to external users of the software, triage | | customer issues with software | | - Process and maintain accurate electronic and digitalfiles | | - Assist with records retention | | - Proficiency as a user of Bluebeamsoftware to assist with | | gathering and assessing data and information. | | - Responsible for Development Services customer service email and | | phoneline. | | - Knowledge and application of NC Administrative codes/policies and | | general statutes related to buildingpermits | | - Responsiblefor verifying contractor licensing through variousNC | | Licensingboards | | - Schedules inspectionrequests for Building andFire departments | | using inspections software andshared Outlookcalendars. | | - Receives, processes, and depositscash and other payments | | receivedin accordance with Townprocedures. | | - Performs a variety of administrative support duties for the | | department; picks p and distributes mail, and orders office | | supplies. | | - Follows up on expired permits to obtain a resolution, including | | certified letters and electroniccorrespondence | | - Performs administrative support duties andother tasksasassigned. | | - Performs related duties as required. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Minimum Qualifications: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Applicant must: | | | | - have a high school diploma (or equivalent); | | - have experience using Microsoft Office (specifically Outlook, | | Word, and Excel); | | - be a current Notary Public or obtain within 12 months of hire; | | and | | - have completed the Law and Administration course or will complete | | within 12 months of hire. | | | | Preference will be given to applicants who: | | | | - have experience as a permit technician | | - have related experience working for a general contractor or civil | | engineering firm | | - have customer service experience | | - are a current Notary Public | | - have completed the Law and Administration course | | - have completed other NC standard code courses | | - have completed an Associate's Degree in business, construction, | | or related field | | - have experience processing payments | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Additional Information: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | The salary range shown is the hiring range.
