Long Island Plastic Surgical Group Part-Time Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) in Garden City, New York

Description

New York Plastic Surgical Group is looking for a Part-Time Physician Assistant. This person will provide direct/indirect plastic surgery services to patients within the education, training, and patient care parameters established by the physicians of New York Plastic Surgical Group; perform independent and complex tasks of a routine nature that would normally be performed by the supervising physician such as providing patient education, performing perioperative histories and physicals, and assisting in surgery.

You will work alongside our surgeon who specializes in pediatric plastic and craniofacial surgery as their first assist and right hand for all cases and in the office. Our Surgeon treats patients with a variety of conditions including cleft lip and palate, protruding ears, syndactyly (fused digits), congenital melanocytic and vascular lesions, and craniosynostosis (premature closure of skull sutures resulting in abnormal skull and facial shape). In addition, she also specializes in facial trauma in both children and adults, including orbital, zygomatic, and mandible fractures, as well as cranioplasty (skull reconstruction) after craniotomy.

All candidates MUST be willing to travel and have flexibility in their schedule.

Experience preferred but not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES:

  1. Maintain open lines of communication with the supervising physician regarding a patient’s medical history (or other information) during consultations, before/after surgery, and office visits.

  2. See pre-op and post-op patients; conduct all preoperative histories and physicals and provide the patient with any prescriptions they will need during the perioperative period; answer any pre/post-operative questions from patients.

  3. Complete notes, summaries, evaluations, and other medical records using EMR (Nextech)

  4. Obtain patient’s medical and personal history; obtain signed consent forms and perform physical evaluations on patients; ensure data entered is complete, accurate, up-to-date, and communicated to supervising physician and other medical staff in an organized fashion.

  5. Provide preoperative preparation for patients by completing surgery scheduling forms, obtaining signed consent forms, and handling certification insurance concerns.

  6. Assist the supervising physician in the operating room with various tasks such as performing first assistance in surgery, with the goal of learning the procedures and eventually be able to perform your own side of the surgery under direct supervision.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree

  2. Graduate of an accredited physician assistant training program

  3. Certified NYS Physician Assistant

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Must maintain a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and professional liability insurance in accordance with his/her employment agreement.

  2. Prefer 2 years or more of experience in plastics as a Physician Assistant.

  3. Become and remain a provider in good standing in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

  4. CPR, ACLS, BLS

  5. Maintain registration in good standing as an RPA, per NYS laws.

  6. Apply, be awarded, and maintain in good standing, membership on the medical staff of each Facility with appropriate privileges at each Facility.

Compensation: $80 an hour
