Description

The city of Garden City is looking for a full-time seasonal custodian. This job involves complex technical work cleaning and maintaining Parks and Recreation facilities.

Examples of Duties

• Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the facilities that are utilized by the Recreation and Parks department.

• Review work of contract workers in progress or upon completion to ensure that quantity and quality of work are acceptable.

• Perform complex and technical cleaning and maintenance duties.

• Work on-site and perform all duties required; operate all cleaning and maintenance equipment utilized by staff.

• Perform routine inspections of plumbing, carpeting, lights, windows, ceiling tiles, doors, and mechanical equipment.

• As needed, lift and carry tables and chairs for room set-ups for meetings and special events.

• Inventory supplies, obtain price quotes, and order cleaning equipment and supplies for Recreation Buildings.

• Ensure all buildings are locked and secured as needed.

• Maintain a variety of records and logs. Prepare daily, monthly, and yearly activity reports.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Considerable knowledge of the various components of cleaning, proper floor and carpet maintenance, and building maintenance. Considerable knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work. Working knowledge of simple hand tools. Working knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Skills in understanding and responding to customer needs. Skills in analyzing and solving technical problems within assigned units. Skill in the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and tools used in custodial maintenance operations, including vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, floor buffers, floor burnisher, auto scrubbers, hand tools, and power tools.

Education, Certification, and Experience:

Experience in stripping and waxing tiled floors, stripping and refinishing wood floors, and maintaining carpeted floors including spotting and proper scrubbing maintenance.
