Kaiser Permanente Speech Therapist III in Gaithersburg, Maryland
Job Summary:
Responsible for Speech Therapy management of members under the direction and supervision of the Rehabilitation Manager. This position consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to the applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licensure requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures. In addition, Regional leaders are accountable for communication, implementation, enforcement, monitoring and oversight of compliance policies and practices in their departments. In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also, accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.
Essential Responsibilities:
Assumes all responsibilities as outlined in Speech Therapist II job description.
Provides direct member care through a variety of modalities, including in-person, telephonic, and/or video-based services.
Provides consultation and mentoring to the Speech therapy staff in their specific area of specialization.
Provides education to speech therapists through formal and informal education in their specific specialty.
Assists in the development and implementation of new clinical practice models for the delivery of care to members who require their expertise.
For their area of specialty, acts as a consultant to staff members for the management of patients and is a resource for on-going, professional development of the staff in their specialty. Assesses staff competencies, clinical judgment, education, and training needs in their specialty. Provides direct patient care, especially for patients with complex problems related to their specialty.
Provides competent patient care at a senior level as defined below. Senior therapists provide leadership to the department, supervise students, Clinical Fellows, and support staff.
Provides a leadership role to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of speech therapy services.
Provides clinical direction to staff in our role as senior staff.
Assumes responsibility for the management of high volume of patients, including those with complex problems or special needs in their area of specialty.
Aids the Lead Therapist/Rehabilitation Manager as needed and covers for Supervisor when they are unavailable.
Act as clinical instructor for speech language pathology students (SLP) during their clinical affiliations and provide supervision of SLP students and other speech therapist working with students.
Provides coverage as needed in other facilities within the region if appropriate.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of full-time practice experience as a licensed speech language pathologist in a clinical setting required.
Education
Graduate of an accredited Speech Language Pathologist curriculum with a bachelors, masters or Doctoral degree in speech therapy or foreign-trained equivalent required.
High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required before hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire.
Speech Language Pathologist License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire
Speech-Language Pathologist License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire
Speech-Language Pathologist Certificate (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire
PECOS Enrollment within 1 months of hire
Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
National Provider Identifier
Additional Requirements:
Foreign trained therapists must meet the education requirements for licensure in all states in which they will potentially practice.
Completion of a post graduate degree from an accredited university with a specialty focus such as an advanced practice masters or doctoral degree relevant to speech therapy.
OR completion of an advanced practice fellowship or has obtained a certificate(s) from an accredited body or organization in a subject matter that is pertinent to our patient population and is clinic-based.
OR receipt of an ASHA Clinical Specialty Certification.
OR has obtain a certification in a subject matter that is pertinent to the Kaiser Permanente patient population and is clinically based.
Demonstrates leadership skills and problem-solving abilities in the clinic and to our members.
Demonstrates behavior consistent with the criteria for professional practice.
Demonstrates leadership in project management, teaching, clinical instructor for students, committee membership.
Evidence of involvement in staff development and mentoring.
Preferred Qualifications:
Teaches speech therapy related health education classes.
Actively involved in supervision and orientation of volunteers within Speech Therapy Department.
Participates in community activities and member education at least 2 times per year, which may include teaching health education classes, participating in medical center functions and attending community health fairs.
Knowledge of or practice in at least 75% of ST clinical competencies preferred.
Masters or Doctoral preparation in Speech Language Pathology.

- Position is for pediatric and adult speech therapy.
