Job Description:

Identifies, reports and writes science-based content for UF Health Communications, including materials for The POST, single-issue publications such as special reports, or radio scripts for a consumer health program that airs nationally on public radio affiliates. Produces multimedia content for external channels. Maintains relationships with faculty and staff and other internal constituents to determine when newsworthy research will be published or presented. Must be proficient in Associated Press style.

Edits news releases and publications. Works with photographers, videographers and graphic designers as needed.

Scouts and pitches story ideas to news media; escorts news media during on-site visits and responds to media requests in an expeditious manner.

Provides communications, marketing and public relations-related planning and support, including occasional event planning and assistance with special projects.

Expected Salary:

$64,000 to $70,000

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization or an associate’s degree and two years of appropriate experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization such as journalism, public relations or communications and two years of appropriate experience; five years of appropriate experience desired

Writing experience, preferably as a reporter or editor at a newspaper, magazine or broadcast media outlet (strongly preferred)

Experience with the development and implementation of marketing and public relations campaigns and editorial planning and coordination preferred

Experience in reporting and writing on medical and scientific topics

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint (strongly preferred)

Superior spelling, punctuation and grammatical skills; proficiency in Associated Press style

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments independently

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team toward organizational objectives
