Job Description:

The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida invites applications for full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant/Associate/Full Scientist. Although the anticipated hiring rank is Research Assistant Scientist, senior levels will be considered based upon experience.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Developing mesoscale models using the phase field method for predicting microstructure evolution in harsh environments, including grain growth and high temperature reactions with hydrogen. These models will be implemented using the Multiphysics Object-Oriented Simulation Environment (MOOSE).

  • Analyzing simulation results to draw conclusions about the material behavior and its impact on performance.

  • Using simulation data to train machine learning models of microstructure evolution.

  • Mentoring and directing undergraduate, masters, and PhD students.

  • Collaborating with experimentalists and data scientists.

  • Writing papers summarizing research progress.

  • Presenting research progress and professional conferences.

Expected Salary:

Salary to commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

PhD in Materials Science or a closely related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate would have experience in:

  • Experience using the phase field method and developing phase field models.

  • Experience using the MOOSE framework for mesoscale simulation.

  • Experience training and running machine learning models.

  • At least three published peer-reviewed papers using phase field modeling.

  • Modeling grain growth in metals and/or ceramics.

  • Experience working with machine learning experts.

  • Experience collaborating with experimentalists.

  • Experience mentoring students.

  • Publications using the MOOSE framework.
