Job Description:

Stagehands assist full-time UFPA crew and rental/touring personnel in the general load-in, set-up, strike, and load-out of various theatrical productions, work calls, and non-theatrical events. Position requires the ability and willingness to work in different areas of specialization regularly. Common tasks may include, but are not limited to-

  • Carpentry/Props - loading and unloading trucks; pushing road cases; sweeping/mopping stage floor; laying dance floor; set up/strike of risers, chairs, music stands, tables, and orchestra shells

  • Lighting - hanging light fixtures, pulling cable, pushing genie lifts

  • Audio - assist with the set-up of sound equipment and cables, mic stands, monitors, backline

  • Video - assist with the set up of video equipment, running cables and screen set-up

  • Rigging/Fly - assembling/hanging scenic elements & curtains

  • Event Staff - direct parking lot traffic, set up and strike of tables & chairs for various lobby functions, post event clean up

  • Hospitality - run errands, transport visiting artists and crew, laundry

  • Maintain a safe working environment at all times by following all established safety policies

  • Assist with the inventory, maintenance and repair of all technical equipment

  • Assist in the cleanliness and organization of the stage and backstage areas

Expected Salary:

$13.00-$15.00 commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

Able to lift and move stage equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Ability to work evenings/nights, weekends and holidays as needed and on short notice

Ability to follow verbal and written directions/instructions

Ability to establish effective working relationships and maintain a positive and productive working atmosphere in a group environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with experience & skills in technical theatre are encouraged to apply, but prior technical theatre experience is not necessary. On-the-job training will be provided.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Schedule is highly variable and depends on calendar of events. Hours of work can include daytime, nights and weekends with work subject to be maintenance, planning, preparation, technical installation/removal, rehearsals, and/or performances.

University of Florida undergraduate students should have at least 10 hours of availability per week.
