Job Description:

The University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine, is seeking applications for a clinical track Assistant/Associate/Professor position in veterinary neurology. The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences has a strong program in Neurology with a successful residency training program that has been in effect since 1978. The residency has strengths in medicine and surgery and the applicant is expected to be proficient in both neurosurgery and medical neurology. The successful candidate will join two board-certified veterinary neurologists in a service that is supported by two full-time veterinary technicians.

The Neurology service has a rapidly growing caseload that is predominantly small animal, with a regular number of wildlife/zoo medicine and large animal consultations. The Small Animal Hospital has a 100,000 square foot facility in addition to a recently renovated previous 25,000 square foot facility. Within the addition is an entire floor allocated to expansive new surgical suites equipped with in-suite computer access to patient diagnostic images, multiple C-arm availability, and binocular surgical operating scopes.

Since the 1990’s, therapies for intracranial neoplasia have been performed at UF and include both intracranial surgery and stereotactic radio surgery (SRS), a technique that was actually developed by our collaborators at the McKnight Brain Institute. There is a large brain tumor immunotherapy group within McKnight that collaborates with the current neurology service. Spinal cord injury is an additional area of active research within the CVM and at the College of Medicine. Our on-site LINAC now allows SRS to be performed in-house; other state-of-the-art equipment and facilities currently available include Cadwell Summit for EMG, MNCV, SNCV, VEP, SEP and a Neurovirtual BW Mini EEG. In-house 1.5 Tesla MRI, which has been recently upgraded, a state of the art 160 slice CT, and nuclear imaging are also available within the 24-hour facility.

Our post-operative patient care is greatly enhanced because of our Integrative medicine/ physical therapy service which utilizes standard physical therapies, underwater treadmills, acupuncture, electro acupuncture, photobiomodulation and hyperbaric oxygen.
