Job Description

Overview: TE Connectivity’s Energy Division is seeking a R&D Sustaining Engineer to join our Fuquay-Varina team in NC. The role will be responsible for maintaining the overhead connectors product line to ensure proper documentation (including drawings/BOM/specifications), that materials adhere to corporate guidelines, and products meet quality requirements for TE Energy’s overhead, solar, BESS, and renewables product lines. The R&D Sustaining Engineer will support a cross functional team consisting of operations, quality, sales, product management, purchasing, customer service, project management and R&D on existing and new product introductions.

Responsibilities include:

• Work with R&D team members on NPI and sustaining projects.

• Optimizes existing products from information or input provided by marketing, customers, Operations, development engineers or other personnel.

• Maintains existing products, processes, and specifications including modifications for new applications consistent with manufacturing techniques and economies.

• Initiates and implements programs to continuously improve quality, and cost while meeting customer requirements.

• May support and implement product extensions to existing platform products to meet specific customer requirements.

• Become the Subject Matter Expert for all assigned product lines.

• 3D CAD design using Creo/Pro-E & 2D CAD design

• Product Data management of eBOMs

• Supporting New Product Developments across a range of projects and executing on cost optimization/reduction (VA/VE) opportunities for the business

• Competitive tear down

• Proficient at 3D scanning & 3D printing equipment

• Preparing design verification test plans, Design & Process FMEAs

• Recording results of design reviews, design decision meetings, and writing technical summaries

• Designing of jigs & fixtures for product testing where required.

• Supporting product compliance and approvals for all new products and platforms as required by our customers.

• Being a strong technical partner and providing support to Product management teams. Attending/supporting customer meetings, technology days and site visits as required.

• Supports Qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes.

• Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs.

What your background should look like:

• A minimum of 3-5 years of engineering related experience for Energy market applications, prefer specific experience in the Solar/BESS market

• Demonstrated record of maintaining documentation and supporting product lines

• Experience with project management demonstrating leadership in keeping projects on track to meet timelines as core engineering team member

• Knowledge of connector product design utilizing aluminum and copper materials

• Knowledge of grounding connector systems would be an advantage

• Knowledge of plastic material properties and experience with part compliance metrics including Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), REACH and RoHs

• Knowledge of packaging, freight, and trade compliance an advantage

• Experience in 3D CAD design tools such as Creo

• LDFSS or DMAIC 6-sigma black or green belt an advantage

• Strong knowledge and understanding of ANSI, UL, IEEE, IEC connector, BESS, PV specifications

• Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Degree

• Proficient in MS Office suite

• Willingness to travel

• Strong customer service mindset and mentality of delivering quality products and services on time and within company cost and profitability objectives.

• Fluent communication and presentation skills facilitating collaboration with own team, customers, internal business leaders, technology leaders and upper management to create value.

• Individual must be initiative-taking and require minimum supervision, have strong planning skills and be able to deal with and balance multiple competing priorities

COMPENSATION

• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $107,680-161,520 (subject to change dependent on physical location)

• Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.

• Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
