HOW YOU’LL HELP DRIVE THE FUTURE OF NATURAL GAS?
The Gas Design Technician (GDT) & Gas Design Project Manager (GDPM) progression supports PGS distribution system construction and maintenance projects. The GDT/GDPM creates, initiates, and/or processes work requests in PowerPlant and other Work Management systems (WMS), determines customer requirements, prepares piping system designs, cost estimates and feasibility analysis, interacts and coordinates with municipalities, FDOT, and others in maintaining and optimizing system integrity due to road improvements and system expansions, makes use of and updates the GIS, CRM-CIS, and Work Management-Workflow database systems, obtains necessary governmental permits and coordinates activities with all involved PGS departments to ensure the successful scheduling and completion of projects to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
This is a multi-level position and the salary range for this position varies and is commensurate with skills, experience, and education.
There may be additional duties and responsibilities based on level of position.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent certificate is required.
Florida Driver License with a safe driving record.
Minimum of four (4) years of work experience related to the Duties and Responsibilities of this position is required. Related experience consists of work related to the items described below:
A college degree may be considered in lieu of some work experience.
The ability to effectively meet and assist customers in making technical decisions that pertain to the project, and conduct needs and feasibility assessments on new construction projects and load additions determining the schedule and required completion dates.
Knowledge and understanding of past land use and/or utility accommodation guide agreements.
Knowledge and/or proficiency with utility industry software including, but not limited to: work management systems, GIS, Customer Information Systems (CIS), etc.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Meets with internal and external customers and/or their agents (“customers”) to conduct needs and feasibility assessments on new construction projects and load additions, and to determine the schedule and required completion dates (“targeted schedule dates”) of different construction phases. Represents customers in construction update meetings with various PGS departments, municipalities, FDOT, and others.
Manages communication with all involved entities concerning any upgrades in the construction schedule or other changes with potential impact, documenting updates through letters and emails, as necessary.
Coordinates the construction activities between all the departments involved in the facility installation process within PGS.
Creates and/or processes Work Order (WO) and Construction requests in PowerPlant and/or a Work ManagementWorkflow database system.
Performs feasibility and load analysis to determine the most efficient, economical and reliable solutions for customers and the PGS distribution system. Estimates the gas loads and pressure delivery for customers and determines actual or proposed field measurements. Models these conditions in the appropriate software applications (Synergee/Stoner) to determine optimal system design to meet customers’ needs while ensuring all results are compliant with system integrity and respective regulatory requirements.
Uses PGS’s geographical information system (GIS) and other CAD software packages to draw the proposed and existing gas distribution facilities (company assets), as well as maintains, updates, and optimizes the GIS platform in conformance to company standards, and federal and state guidelines.
Produces, coordinates, and/or oversees the production of construction plans, easement agreements, right-of-way permit drawings, project charters, and Gantt charts, for Distribution Operations, Real Estate and/or Contractors:
Verifies locations of PGS’s existing and proposed facilities and any third parties’ infrastructures (water, sewer, storm, electric, telephone, and cable lines) are adequately identified on the construction prints, and all installation specifications are captured.
Based on the scope of construction and company safety standards, determines necessity and scale of the Maintenance-of-Traffic (MOT) plan that Operations and/or contractors will need for completing work in the rightof-way.
Produce construction cost estimates (including labor, materials, and equipment) and obtains/calculates projected four-year revenue (MACC) as needed. Determines and communicates the need for Construction Deposits and/or Contribution-in-Aid-of-Construction (CIAC) charges based on PGS revenue shortage/excess costs in the following situations:
Estimates PGS construction costs relative to the projected four-year PGS revenue for the project.
Tracks and reviews Construction Deposit activity as prescribed within tariff guidelines.
In support of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, review financial data in PowerPlant related to Engineering, Field Construction and Operations construction and maintenance activities. Verified activities are coded to the correct classification and charged to the appropriate accounts (Capital vs. O&M). Assist in the preparation of annual Capital and O&M budgets with its correspondent development of monthly forecasts.
Monitors, reviews, and processes contractor’s contracts for Engineering, Construction, Mapping, and other activities inclusive of bid packages, purchase requisition, material worksheets, invoices (inclusive of validation and reconciliation), As-builds, GPS data points, etc., necessary in the satisfactory completion of said projects in support of Capital and O&M activities.

A college degree in related field from an accredited college/university is desirable. Related fields include disciplines such as Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Applied Sciences, or Business Administration.
Maintenance of Traffic MOT (ATSSA) certification.

WHERE AND HOW YOU’LL WORK?
Work hours consist of a minimum of 8-hours per day Monday through Friday. Some overtime is required to meet Customer deadlines and storm response.
Working conditions are both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
The level of stress is moderate to heavy depending upon the level of interaction with customers and governmental agencies.
May be assigned to the Call-Out rotation schedule as an after-hours coordinator for emergency response.

TECO Energy and its companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our TECO Energy customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.
