The Four Corners Fossil-Fuel Generating plant is located 18 miles west of Farmington, a community of about 40,000, in the northwest region of New Mexico.

Because the Four Corners Fossil-Fuel Generating plant is on the Navajo Reservation, Navajo preference will apply in the job selection.

Summary

As an Instructor II on the Four Corners Generation Team , you will design, develop, deliver, and evaluate training programs that empower employees to work safely and effectively. You will play a key role in ensuring training aligns with business needs, site procedures, industry standards, and apprenticeship program requirements. Your expertise will support the development of a highly skilled workforce, driving operational excellence and safety compliance across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Design & Development: Create and update training materials to reflect current industry standards, site-specific procedures, and business goals.

Training Delivery: Facilitate engaging and impactful training sessions, tailored to meet the needs of employees at various skill levels.

Program Evaluation: Assess training effectiveness through feedback, performance metrics, and compliance with apprenticeship standards.

Safety Compliance: Ensure all training programs promote and enforce the highest safety standards for personnel and equipment.

Collaboration: Partner with site leaders and technical experts to identify training needs and implement solutions that address operational priorities.

This position is based at the Four Corners Power Plant, which is located near Farmington, New Mexico.

Minimum Requirements

  • AA/AS degree or educational equivalent in training related field

  • Two years of experience in course development and training delivery.

  • Must possess technical writing and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven working knowledge of systematic approach to training.

  • Proficient in PC software applications including Microsoft 365 products.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel frequently to statewide APS locations.

  • Experience at a journeyman level trade will be required for technical training positions.

Major Accountabilities

1) Designs, develops and conducts training classes and develops materials to support new and incumbent employees in a variety of safety and or technical skills. Develops and conducts training courses relative to the electric utility industry including industry events, lessons learned and human performance improvement initiatives.

2) Analyze, design, develop and implement training programs in accordance with appropriate regulations and standards with a systematic approach to training. May include the design and delivery of apprenticeship programs.

3) Supports activities of other teams and external customers to ensure overall training needs are met.

4) Evaluate and analyze training materials and modify/enhance when needed. Conduct evaluations of training.

5) Facilitates training program administration; may include apprenticeship training administration.

6) Conducts evaluation and remediation (when required) of student performance.

7) May assist Leader with Apprentice rotation entrance/exit interviews and field visits to ensure training effectiveness.

8) Promote training/business partnership by developing professional rapport with all levels of employees and leaders

9) Provides guidance and support to business management and CAP/HP management on training related issues.

10) Must maintain instructor qualifications and technical proficiency in the assigned discipline.

11) Assists in formal training assessments and evaluations at a Business Unit level.

Role Type

Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).

In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.

*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).

*Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
