Occasional to moderate travel required.

Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

JOB DUTIES:

This is a part-time position working closely with one to two other OPS employees on the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest in Frostproof managing invasive species that alter natural communities by displacing native species and expanding through natural processes. Approximately 90% of this position’s time will be spent in the field, surveying for invasive species in new locations, monitoring invasive contractors for funded invasive projects, logging areas on a GPS, treating invasives species in the field, and maintaining previously treated infested areas. The remaining 10% of time is spent mapping the locations on the computer in ArcGIS, data entry and equipment maintenance. A small portion of time will also be spent helping with state forest projects such as collecting data for threatened and endangered plant/animal species and restoration projects.

Examples of Work Performed

Performs invasive species eradication and control using specialized equipment, herbicides and land management techniques.

Logging areas in a Tablet using ESRI Field Maps.

Mapping locations using ArcGIS.

Data entry.

Assists with reforestation activities.

Assists with restoration projects in upland natural communities on state forest land.

Assists with short and long-range goals and objectives.

Equipment maintenance.

Other related work as required.
