Meta SiteOps Area Capacity Engineer in Fremont, California

Summary:

Meta is seeking an experienced engineer to join the Capacity Team within Data Center Operations. This individual will be responsible for capacity planning and communication within an Area region. Their primary responsibility will be to represent that Area to the cross-functional teams involved with capacity planning and build consistency within the region.We seek an IT professional with advanced planning skills including keen awareness of the impacts of network, hardware, electricity, infrastructure, and data center redundancy. This person is expected to have a technical background in an engineering discipline, not necessarily specific to data centers. This role involves working with engineering, planning and other technical leaders in peer teams on complex infrastructure projects and solving technical and logistical challenges associated with capacity planning, installation, provisioning, decommissioning, retrofits, and service migrations. This role will work very closely with our data center Capacity Engineering teams to drive alignment on process, metrics, best practices, and strategic priorities.This is an IC role, and we are not looking for someone to manage people. However, this person should have technical leadership experience, including communication skills. They will provide a representational voice for the field in conversations within the pillar in addition to cross-functional partners. This will reduce the number of people our partner teams interact with, both currently and in the future.

Required Skills:

SiteOps Area Capacity Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for planning and technical oversight of project execution within the data centers of their region

  2. Work as a technical SME with cross-functional data center teams regionally and globally

  3. Be an escalation point for questions from the data centers involving capacity planning

  4. Be the primary communication point for regional cross-functional partners to the data centers within their region

  5. Provide guidance, mentor technical peers, and determine efficient solutions that will define/refine tooling and existing/new processes

  6. Plan for large-scale deployments of hardware, while considering space, power, cooling, networking, and resiliency

  7. Provide cross data center support including identifying potentially larger issues, trends, and displaying effective communication when something is identified

  8. Help develop global standards for processes, workflow and automation roadmaps for tools that facilitate deployment, maintaining and decommissioning of server hardware at scale

  9. Lead process improvements and best practice in data center operations

  10. Build cross-functional relationships and influence policies and procedures to improve global data center operations

  11. Travel up to 30% required

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  2. 7+ years of infrastructure or related experience

  3. Knowledge of the interdependencies of data center functions and technologies

  4. Experience managing multiple projects within the same time schedule

  5. Communication skills with the capacity to interact to many different people with varying levels of expertise across multiple disciplines

  6. Time and project management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in large-scale data center environments

  2. Proven experience in the application of project management techniques such as PRINCE2/Agile, or continuous improvement techniques such as Lean Six Sigma

  3. Knowledge of the demand signal within Meta with tools such as suplan, cord and the teams involved

  4. Knowledge of enterprise level networking and storage equipment installs

  5. Intimate knowledge of the demand signal life cycle for large data centers

  6. Capacity to prioritize many conflicting priorities

Public Compensation:

$157,000/year to $218,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
