The L.L.Bean Store Operations Team is seeking a Project Leader to support the planning and tactical execution of new retail store openings, remodels, rollout of company initiatives and support of capital projects. This role acts as the liaison between corporate business partners and the retail field organization for assigned projects to ensure exceptional execution.

This role is based in our beautiful new Corporate Headquarters located in Freeport, Maine; but will consider remote candidates depending on the circumstance and client areas assigned, and ability to come to HQ in person as needed. Travel is required and will be up to 75% of time based on project and store opening schedules.

What You'll Do:

  • On site project management of remodels, renovations, and new store fit ups and closings

  • Visit store project sites as needed to confirm progress and complete store punch walks.

  • Schedule, develop and manage weekly calls for assigned projects, reviewing statuses and risks, while coordinating solutions and strategies to maintain project timelines.

  • Effectively manage a team of field leaders in the execution of store openings and projects

  • Communicate with business partners regarding timeliness of turnover of assigned openings of upcoming store projects.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ranging from remodels, new stores, and various assigned projects.

  • Maintain and update new store opening manuals and processes to support continuous improvement in the program.

  • Document and initiate AAR after each assigned opening with business partners.

  • Works under minimal supervision to plan, direct and coordinate activities of short-term, intra-departmental project(s) to ensure goals or objectives of the project(s) are accomplished within prescribed timeframe and budgetary parameters.

  • Generally responsible for project(s) with minimal financial impact to a single operational area or department, working with a small project team, and short-term duration (typically one year or less).

    Responsibilities:

  • Applies established procedures and basic project management methodologies.

  • Work with sponsoring management to define project scope, outcomes, and priorities.

  • Develop project definition, timelines, milestones, and role clarification for all people involved in the project. Assign tasks and necessary resources. Review with management.

  • Determine work teams, consultants, or individuals critical to involve in the project and bring together as necessary.

  • Ensure continuous communication around the project occurs as required.

  • Keep management informed of progress to goal; negotiate adjustments to the schedule and resources to ensure overall quality of completed project.

  • Act as liaison with internal and external consultants, ensuring adequate information is readily available and coordinating activities in line with the project plan.

  • Make recommendations to project sponsor(s) and ensure an action plan is established that will lead to the successful implementation of project recommendations.

  • Plan for and report measurements to document and evaluate the success of the projects.

  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of the project recommendations and outcomes.

  • May work with external vendors to assist in negotiating contracts.

  • May assume people management responsibilities for the duration of the project.

  • Assume additional related responsibilities as requested.

Store Leadership experience preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights, weekends, and holidays, as this role supports our retail stores.

  • Comfortable with meeting or exceeding deadlines, doing the work necessary to open a store or remodel on time with a driven attitude.

  • Fundamental functional, process and/or technical skills related to project area.

  • Basic knowledge of project management and business skills; scoping, negotiating, contracting, scheduling, etc.

  • Ability to identify the critical factors of the change management process.

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate across wide range of audiences.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.

  • Understanding of group dynamics and proven ability to gain cooperation across multiple teams and disciplines.

  • Bias for action; driven to obtain issue resolution and project closure.

  • Good computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
