Job Summary
We're looking for a Digital Hardware/Firmware/FPGA Engineer II to join our Signal Solutions team in Frederick, MD. In this role, you'll design, develop, analyze, verify, and validate digital electronic products and subsystems covering a wide range of applications including signal and radar processing, network communications, and electronic warfare.
This is a hybrid role with some remote flexibility, and we work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.
Job Responsibilities
FPGA/PLD digital logic design, System Simulation, Synthesis, Resource and Power Utilization analysis, Place and Route, Timing analysis, Verification, and Integration activities
Design, build, and test of cutting-edge devices containing both digital and optical hardware
Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in existing products or systems and makes modifications as needed
Compile and evaluate design and test data
Analyze, develop and recommend design approaches
Provide regular reporting of progress and status
Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
Develop prototypes to retire key development risks as directed
Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
Responsible for some aspects of requirement decomposition/definition/clarification, system design, system verification, associated documentation for digital electronics development, design revision control, and archival of design files
Participate in the generation of test and verification plans establishing functional criteria to ensure requirements are correctly implemented
Participate in the execution of verification plans and assist in development unit and system testing
May participate in BD (Business Development) activities, including providing inputs to RFPs (Request for Proposals) and RFQs (Request for Quotes)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or other related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Firmware development Tools/Skills proficiencies:
Implement high speed interface designs, low power architectures, embedded micro-processing systems, and complex memory designs, including protocols such as DDR, 10G/40G/100G Ethernet, Aurora, and PCIe in networking applications
Implement novel DSP algorithms efficiently into FPGA structures
Generate and execute constraint driven synthesis and timing closure techniques
VHDL, with some familiarity with Verilog and SystemVerilog
Various scripting languages and approaches such as tcl, bash, perl, etc.
Mentor Graphics Questa or ModelSim simulation/verification tools, with some familiarity with constrained random verification approaches
Subversion, CVS, GIT, or similar
Xilinx Vivado, Intel Questa, Microsemi Libero SoC, etc.
Digital Hardware design Tools/Skills proficiencies:
Schematic capture and providing input to PWB/PCB design through layout, fabrication and assembly
Manage bill of materials (BOMs), costs, and schedules
Contribute to digital hardware requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis (e.g. signal integrity, power, etc.), interface analysis and definition for the design
Contribute to the integration and verification of digital components, equipment, and systems for major programs and projects
Involved in troubleshooting and design updates of existing
Knowledge of high-speed serial and parallel interfaces such as 40GBASE-KR4, PCIe, DDR4, USB, SERDES, etc.
Knowledge of lab practices and test using high speed measurement instruments such as VNAs, oscilloscopes, BERTs and TDR/TDT
*This position has the option of being either fully onsite in our Frederick facility or partly remote (onsite Tues-Thurs). Must live within commuting distance of the designated facility regardless of choice.
