UPMC Medical Assistant - Northwest Interventional Pain in Franklin, Pennsylvania

Responsibilities:

  • Manage patient flow by checking schedules, organizing appointments, and accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms. Assist with walking, transfers, dressing, specimen collection, and exam preparation.

  • Collect patient information and history, take vital signs, and perform screenings according to provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients and families as needed.

  • Handle the sending and receiving of patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations. Manage lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referrals.

  • Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment following department protocols. Clean exam/procedure rooms and equipment between visits to maintain infection control.

  • Manage inventory of supplies and restock exam/procedure rooms as necessary. Follow scheduled maintenance programs and keep accurate records.

  • Comply with regulatory requirements from agencies such as OSHA, CLIA, and the PA Department of Health. Maintain confidentiality of medical records and adhere to UPMC Health System policies.

  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, level one labs, and clinic procedures. Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information in medical records.

  • Answer phone calls, provide relevant information, schedule appointments, verify insurance coverage and patient demographics, prepare and manage charts, and handle other front office duties. Administer injectable medications and vaccines under physician supervision when appropriate.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities

Preferred:

  • Medical Assistant experience

  • EPIC experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
