MACON COUNTY Maintenance Worker II - Part Time in FRANKLIN, North Carolina

POSITION: Maintenance Worker II /Part-Time DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste Grade: 23 Starting Salary: $16.3143 per hour Position Number: 471245 Posted: July 24, 2024 Closing: Until Filled

General Definition of Work Performs skilled trades work in the construction, maintenance and repair of landfill and convenience center buildings, grounds, and equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Position is limited to less than 1,000- hours per year. Work is performed under the supervision of the Landfill Superintendent.

Essential Functions:

  • Participates in a wide variety of building maintenance and repair tasks involving one or more of the trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, masonry, painting, welding and electrical work.
  • Performs ground maintenance tasks; mows grass, edges sidewalks and curbs, weed eats, trims trees and shrubs, sprays pesticides; grades driveways; removes leaves and debris; cleans parking lots; removes snow and ice.
  • Performs minor plumbing tasks; fixes and repairs water lines and leaks; replaces pneumatic valves and sprinkler heads; cleans out waste lines and drain lines; repairs, maintains and changes plumbing fixtures.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and general repairs to landfill vehicles and equipment; maintains and repairs motors, starters and controls.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and other trades;
  • General knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned; s
  • Skill in the use of equipment to which assigned;
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions;
  • Ability to read and write;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public.

Minimum Training and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in maintenance, repair and/or construction work,
  • ORequivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, depth perception and color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be requi ed to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid commercial driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
