Job Description

This position is within a family outpatient clinic connected to the hospital. The team seeks someone early in their career who is eager to learn and grow within the organization. The patient volume is approximately 15-20 patients daily, depending on walk-ins and scheduled appointments. The volume for this Medical Assistant will be slightly lower as they will start with a newer provider building out their network.

The majority of time (30%) will be spent assisting providers by rooming patients, obtaining blood pressure, documenting signs/symptoms, taking weight and temperature, and completing medical history documentation.

The next bulk of time (25%) will be spent performing the following:

  • Setting up for procedures and assisting providers with procedures, including dressing changes, catheterizations, removing castings, removing sutures and staples, breathing treatments, ear washes, assisting with cast application and DME fittings, EKGs, urinalyses, strep/flu/pregnancy tests, and other miscellaneous tests as directed by the provider/dependent upon the specialty practice.

Each of the following will consume approximately 10% of your time:

  • Scheduling tests, radiology exams, appointments with specialists as requested, entering all information pertaining to check-in/check-out in the EMR. Performing prior authorizations as needed and notifying the office referral specialist when an insurance referral is required.

  • Assisting providers with office exams and collecting height, weight, BMI, and other pertinent information. Updating immunization records.

  • Phone triage when scheduled, including patient medical questions, test results, medication refills, and call-backs to patients. Also includes faxes/calls/transmits prescription refills as directed.

  • Performing walk-in patient duties as needed, which may include triage, injections, blood pressures, urinalyses, medication sample requests, and collecting history and other information from patients to relay to the provider.

  • Functioning as a resource to visitors, providers, and staff. Greeting everyone promptly and courteously and continuously supporting the Mission and Values of the organization.

Finally, the last two will take up 5% of time:

  • Performing additional duties not addressed here as assigned by the Practice Administrator, practice site provider, and/or the VP of Physician Practices.

  • Conducting all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and company policies and procedures, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

Job Type

This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 6 Month(s).

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Franklin, Indiana.

Work Environment

Working hours are 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday. Ea sy access to parking. The team includes 2 providers and 1 other MA, seeing approximately 130 patients daily.
