Role Purpose

​ As a Sr. Manager, Data Solutions on the product engineering team, you will be responsible for defining and operationalizing some of Mars Veterinary Health’s (MVH) most important data. You will collaborate with data analysts, engineers, data scientists, product managers and other cross-functional teams to create integrated roadmaps, prioritize development, define metrics, and deliver scalable and quality data products. Your primary responsibilities include driving the definition, design, and operationalization of data solutions to maximize business leverage and serve the needs of internal and external customers. You will own and prioritize the long-term product roadmap for data products, balancing priorities based on impact and risk, and shaping the business capabilities and architecture. Additionally, you will develop a robust integration strategy and lead a team of data solutions engineers.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.

  • Engage with business units and teams across MVH to identify business needs, requirements, and prioritize competing program demands to align with organizational goals for delivery.

  • Contribute to the data product strategy of the enterprise data platform and own the roadmap for the delivery of data solutions.

  • Work closely with the data engineering and architecture teams in the design of scalable, cloud-based data solutions, and delivery of functionality through data product and features.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data integrations to internal and external systems.

  • Communicate effectively with business and engineering teams across different geographies and time zones.

  • Ensure data products and solutions meet customer needs, functional requirements, and quality standards.

  • Deliver solutions that continuously monitor and improve the overall data quality of the enterprise data warehouse and reporting layers to establish and maintain credibility of the data platform.

  • Maintain the enterprise data dictionary and implement solutions to improve the discoverability of the data for the self-serve customers.

  • Evangelize the use of enterprise data platform through consistent messaging, educating end users on new product releases, and working with them to mitigate risks on their downstream applications.

  • Work with business data teams on the adoption and usage of the enterprise data platform including construction, management of pipelines, and workspaces for their solutions.

  • Learn and be curious about the rapidly evolving cloud services and solutions to evaluate and determine the right solutions for the enterprise data products.

  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.

  • Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.

  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.

  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.

  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field and/or MBA is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, or a combination of education, training and experience to provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • At least 7 years of managerial experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver data solutions is required.

  • At least 4 years of experience working on the core data platforms that power data analytics and reporting including a deep understanding of the cloud ecosystem, including cloud platforms, services, APIs, and deployment models is required.

  • At least 2 years of as a product owner in an Agile development process is required.

  • Must have excellent communication skills and ability to build trust/rapport with business users and data engineering architects.

  • Microsoft Cloud Azure, SQL, and Python knowledge are required.

  • Health care background (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.) is preferred.

Salary: $118,531 – $178,193
