Position Highlights

  • Work location: Texas Health Southwest Ft. Worth, 6100 Harris Parkway, Ft. Worth, TX 76132

  • Work hours: Day shift, full-time - 40 hours

  • Work environment: The Trauma Administration Department oversees and guides the trauma practices for the entire 261 bed trauma facility. Texas Health Southwest is still growing through our first designation cycle after successfully achieving our designation as a Level III trauma center in early 2022. We work closely with administrators, physicians, nurses, and pre-hospital personnel to deliver high-quality standardized clinical care to Trauma patients utilizing guidelines developed by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). We analyze and use data to continually improve processes and patient outcomes throughout the trauma care continuum. Finally, we promote the flow of patient information across settings, while protecting patient rights, security, and privacy. This includes sharing patient data with the DSHS, which is then used in combination with data from all trauma facilities throughout Texas to benchmark and compare Texas with other states and perform epidemiological investigations to identify public health opportunities.

At Texas Health Southwest and Texas Health Clearfork we’re one hospital in two locations. We’re a 261-bed, full-service hospital serving southwest Fort Worth and surrounding areas since 1987.

We specialize in surgical services, orthopedics, rehab services, imaging services and adult critical care, and we have a 24-hour emergency department. Plus, we are a certified Primary Heart Attack center, certified Primary Stroke center, Level III Trauma, Level III Maternal, Level III Neonatal center, certified Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement facility, and a nationally accredited Breast Center.

Texas Health Southwest has received Magnet designations, plus a CMS 5-Star rating, the US News & World report top hospital award, and multiple awards for STEMI/NSTEMI.

Things you need for the position:

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required and

Associate's Degree in Health Information or related field preferred and

ATS or equivalent Trauma Registrar Course preferred and

AAAM Injury Coding Course preferred

Experience

One (1) year experience with chart auditing, quality improvement, data entry required required and

One (1) year medical records experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications

Trauma Registrar Certification upon hire preferred

Skills

  • Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and familiarity with statistics with the ability to analyze and draw inferences from statistical data.

  • Positive interpersonal and communication skills. Good organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to function in a fast paced environment.

  • Must demonstrate proficiency with computers and understanding of medical terminology.

  • Ability to use resources of other institutions and physician offices to obtain/analyze trauma related data.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provides quality, safe patient care and exceptional customer service.

  • Contributes to creating and maintaining a collaborative work environment.

  • Champions actions to reduce/eliminate patient risks.

  • Incorporates customer needs and expectations into daily operations.

  • Collaborates with all customer groups (staff, physicians, patients, family, external customers) to determine customer expectations.

  • Completes daily analysis of medical records for trauma patients and determines eligibility for registry reporting.

  • Maintains registry, orderly records of data to be coded and abstracts.

  • Completes daily obligations addressing case discovery, patient rounds and performance improvement process.

  • Communicates current regulatory requirements and monitors compliance.

  • Performs queries for reports from the trauma registry database.

  • Analyzes data to fulfill administrative and medical staff requests.

  • Downloads essential data to the Texas Department of Health Bureau of Epidemiology on a monthly basis and National Trauma Data Bank annual download.

  • Collects patient care data, identifies and reports significant findings to Trauma Program Manager/Coordinator and Trauma Medical Director.

  • Monitors trauma patient records for quality improvement indicators.

  • Provides quality, patient-centered care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient and equitable.

  • Establishes collegial relationships with physicians.

  • Supports and maintains effective communication among physicians, staff and other departments.

  • Consistently promotes a professional image of in demeanor, appearance, attitude and behaviors.

  • Integrates team building strategies and principles of group process in interactions.

  • Provides safe patient care at affordable costs delivered by compassionate caregivers.

  • Identifies ineffective and costly processes and takes action to improve those processes.

  • Remains flexible with scheduling to help meet departmental/patient needs.

  • Assumes responsibility for and participates in projects as needed.

  • Helps to coordinate care across a broader continuum of patient care including injury prevention, pre-hospital, acute, emergent, and rehabilitation.

  • Integrates the ACS guidelines for trauma patient care into the continuum of patient care.

  • Coordinates efforts in the progressive growth of trauma system.

  • Contributes to unit-based programs.

  • Contributes to research strategies.
