We are developing the future of Army Aviation with the Bell Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) modernization effort. We are also developing the Bell 525 Relentless, and Bell's High-Speed Vertical Take-Off and Landing (HSVTOL) program, a next generation rotor-craft.

This position is either onsite in Fort Worth, TX or at other Bell locations: Huntsville, AL or Wichita, Kansas.

Manager, FLRAA Software Safety Engineering

The Manager, FLRAA Software Safety Engineering is responsible for managing the software safety process, analyses, and personnel for the FLRAA program.

This includes professional development of internal talent, sourcing of additional talent when required, providing input to the overall master schedule, identifying, developing and tracking required deliverables and developing, managing and communicating the system safety methodology for internal and external customers.

The position will be at the forefront of emerging safety techniques including Model Based Safety Analysis (MBSA) and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to incorporate AMCOM 385-17, DO-178C, DO-254 and MIL STD-882E safety process.We are for looking someone who understands the enormity of the customer’s mission and brings an innate passion for the customer’s safety and success to the workplace every day.

What you’ll be doing as the FLRAA System Safety Engineering Manager:

  • Manage the MIL-STD-882E software system safety process and provide technical oversight for the Software Safety Team.

  • Planning, defining and verifying software safety requirements and software safety analysis artifacts to ensure design integrity and safety.

  • Planning detailed tasks and estimating the budget to execute.

  • Manage manpower resources and tools to support the program timeline and deliverables.

  • Represent Bell with military/industry at System Safety/Software Safety Working Groups.

  • Influencing air vehicle design to improve system safety features and design.

  • Performing Model Based Safety Analysis (MBSA) in coordination with air vehicle Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) efforts.

Qualifications

Skills You Bring To this Role:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical Engineer or Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering degrees.

  • At least 15 years engineering relevant experience in the aerospace industry.

  • At least 3 years of direct leadership experience

  • Direct experience with defense safety process defined in MIL-STD-882 or the civil safety process defined in Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) ARP-4754 and ARP-4761.

  • Direct experience with software development (RTCA DO-178) and complex/programmable hardware development (RTCA DO-254).

  • Familiarity with military Software System Safety Policy AMCOM Regulation 385-17

  • Experience in the development and execution of System and Software System Safety Program Plans.

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a US Govt Secret Security Clearance

What you need to be successful:

  • Experience in leading and mentoring engineers performing system safety analyses for a commercial or military development program at an aircraft, system, or sub-system level.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with cross functional teams in resolving complex highly integrated functional systems problems.

  • Management and oversight of supplier safety assessment reports and safety deliverables.

  • Demonstrated Communication Skills needed to brief top-level management, customers and/or large groups on an occasional-to-frequent basis.
