Job Description:
SUMMARY
Intern will have the opportunity to work under the direct supervision of an engineer within the City of Fort Wayne City Utilities Engineering Departments. This position will work closely with a diverse office group of professional engineers (P.E.s) and engineering interns (E.I.s). The intern will work both in the office and the field. There will be education of Fort Waynes Utility system including storm and sanitary collection, water distribution, energy and sustainable infrastructure, treatment facilities, dams, and reservoirs. This position is excluded from paragraphs 3 and 4 of City Attendance Policy 305; all other paragraphs of this policy apply. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City and Utility's safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Field reconnaissance for purposes of gathering data on existing equipment
Verifying plans and specifications against field conditions.
Preliminary report preparation including taking an infrastructure or process issue at a facility, and researching options, conducting meetings, and presenting alternatives and recommendations for a project.
Participate in process improvement and optimization projects and programs
Participate in efforts to improve sustainability of Utility projects and programs
