U.S. Army Medical Command Social Services Representative in Fort Riley, Kansas

Summary About the Position: The primary purpose of this job is to provide a Social Service Representative to perform case work services and agency coordination in alleged and identified child advocacy cases. The performance of this job requires application of specialized knowledge of the Family Advocacy Program, laws, system, functions and operational procedures of Kansas Department for Children and Families and other on and off-post resources, counseling skills, and service skills. Responsibilities Investigates and renders casework services for suspected child abuse, neglect, and child behavior cases. Investigates and renders casework services for sµspecte spouse abuse cases. Contacts unit commanders to obtain information on military member and to obtain assistance and support in arranging for military member to meet with state or local personnel. Confers with medical staff and state representatives to interchange facts and to identify need for employment of protective child services to include removal from the home immediately or upon the child's release from the hospital. Establishes and maintains case records. Counsels the abuser in regard to finding alternative ways of handling anger and aggressive behavior as well as informing the abuser of the consequences of further incidents of abuse. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting to develop plans of assistance and service; 2) providing individualized assistance for abuse/neglect cases; AND 3) assisting with establishing/maintaining case records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to Detail Customer Service Personnel Action Processing and Recordkeeping Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Basic Life Support Certification is a requirement of this position. You must already have or be able to obtain certification within two months of starting this position.
