This position requires you to work on site at one of our facilities located throughout Broward County

This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment. OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.

DUTIES:

This position reports directly to Senior Community Health Nursing supervisor with technical assistance by the Laboratory Director, TB physician, and Lead Lab Technologist.

The duties and responsibilities are those of a Laboratory Technician assigned to perform a variety of laboratory tests in our busy Tuberculosis Program, Refugee Health, Epidemiology, and Hepatitis Program.

The incumbent will perform direct patient care with venipuncture to collect blood samples at clinic or during assigned home visits when assigned.

Will prepare packaging and shipment of specimens for DOH Broward clinics. Monitor lab specimen storage unit and assist Lead Tech with any laboratory QA issues. Required to conduct quality control processes to ensure adherence to CLIA licensing requirements.

Assists with quality control of lab specimen temperatures, testing areas, and waived lab tests.

May be required to travel to other DOH clinics for lab coverage as necessary.

Expected to work collaboratively with staff and provide optimal internal/external customer service.

Knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention

Knowledge and understanding of microbiology and pathology of bacteria and viruses

Knowledge of epidemiology/infection control practices

Ability to practice standard precautions

Skilled at performing phlebotomy

Ability to participate in the planning and implementing laboratory procedures

Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical, social, and emotional problems

Ability to observe and respond to patient’s reactions to phlebotomy

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments

Ability to prioritize workload

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to investigate and report laboratory issues

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours, or days in the event of an emergency.

  • Six (6)months or more experience performing phlebotomy as a lab technician.

  • Valid Florida’s driver’s license, free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes and receive reimbursement for mileage.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in medical office / Doctor’s office.

  • Experience working as a lab tech performing phlebotomy.

  • Experience working in a laboratory performing phlebotomy

  • Experience working in a hospital setting performing phlebotomy.

  • Experience preparing lab specimens for shipment.
