Job Summary and Qualifications
The DIO has the authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of the sponsoring institution’s ACGME accredited programs, as well as for ensuring compliance with the ACGME institutional, common, and specialty/subspecialty-specific program requirements. This position requires that the DIO work closely with each program to recognize areas needing attention and determine what additional resources or efforts are required to prevent negative accreditation decisions and improve quality. Interaction with the C-suite leadership and Division VP of GME is critical to ensure success. The DIO also leads the local GME team in constantly improving the work and learning environment with the goal of creating a high-quality training institution.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Engage and drive the graduate medical education service (GME) line towards full compliance with the ACGME requirements for sponsoring institutions and programs.
Work effectively with the GME leadership and support teams to meet the accreditation and resource needs of the residents, fellows and GME program faculty.
Make timely, informed decisions that are in the best interest of our residents, fellows, program faculty and leadership as well as in compliance with ACGME requirements
Organize, oversee, and assist in preparations for site visits for the institution and each of the institution’s ACGME-accredited programs.
The DIO is responsible for the effective execution of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, either as chair or through a designee.
Continuously assess the adequacy of institutional resources to support resident/fellow education and act as the advocate for the educational mission.
The DIO plays a central role in residency grievance procedures, disciplinary and adverse actions.
Create and foster relationships with the institutional leadership of each facility and integrate GME leadership with the existing leadership framework (Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Operations Officer).
The DIO plays an essential role in supporting program recruitment of residents and fellows, ensuring that ACGME eligibility requirements and HCA Healthcare GME requirements are met.
The DIO must assist in the professional development of program directors, with assistance from HCA Healthcare GME experts.
HCA Healthcare provides numerous centralized resources for GME programs. The DIO is responsible for understanding the resources available and ensuring programs have access to these resources when appropriate.
Education:
- The DIO must hold an M.D., D.O., PhD, or other qualification deemed appropriate by the Division Vice President of GME and facility leadership.
Experience:
Prior experience as a DIO, program director, or other GME administrator is highly preferred.
Experience in undergraduate medical education administration or other healthcare industry administration may be appropriate in certain situations.

Knowledge of the academic requirements and quality standards of Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs and sponsoring institutions.
