Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Biology Department expands the frontiers of knowledge through our broad-based expertise in applied ecology, quantitative methods, and human dimensions in the conservation and management of fish and wildlife. We teach students to think critically about environmental issues, and become ecologically literate citizens with the training to be successful in graduate school and in careers with natural resources agencies, firms, and non-government organizations. Our outreach efforts contribute significantly to life-long learning by assisting individuals and agencies to solve complex environmental problems and to be good stewards of our nation’s natural resources.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will collaborate with Dr. Sara Bombaci and undergraduate technicians to collect and analyze data, publish research on socioeconomic status ( SES )-realted biases in citizen science data, and investigate how SES , urban development, and natural environments influence biodiversity across multiple cities.
Required Job Qualifications
Ph.D. degree in a pertinent biological, physical, or computer science field by start date of position.
Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Proficiency in statistical methods, especially using spatial statistics to analyze large, complex spatial datasets. This includes skills in handling large datasets, data cleaning, and integration of multiple datasets (e.g., citizen science data from eBird with other reference datasets).
Record of scholarly publication.
Experience with social-ecological research in urban settings.
Experience collaborating with diverse groups including academic faculty, staff, and supervising and mentoring graduate/undergraduate students.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills to convey findings to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
Personal and professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by involvement in teaching, research, outreach, creative activity, service to the profession and/or diversity/inclusion activities.

Analyze data using Bayesian preferential sampling models or similar hierarchical spatial statistical models.
Produce peer-reviewed publications on socioeconomic status ( SES )-related sampling biases in citizen science data, and investigate how SES , urban development, and natural environments influence biodiversity across multiple cities.
Prepare data summaries, presentations, and annual reports of study findings.
