Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Department of Clinical Sciences mission is to assure the health and productivity of animals to meet societal needs through high quality educational programs for professional veterinary medical students, graduate veterinarians, and the public through a faculty and veterinary medical center of excellence, and to advance and disseminate comparative biomedical knowledge in an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to support and promote research projects within the field of cardiology and cardiac surgery, working closely with Dr. Arai. The role involves generating scientific articles and presentations at both national and international levels. The position plays a critical role in advancing research and disseminating knowledge within the field, contributing to the overall advancement of cardiology and cardiac surgery.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by time of application; the Clinical Sciences department will not provide visa sponsorship for these positions.

Required Job Qualifications

  • BS Degree and 3 years of lab experience (electrophoresis, protein extraction or similar lab experience).

OR

  • Recent Master’s Degree in Biology, bioengineering or related field with no other significant professional experience

    AND

  • Experience in data input, management and analysis

  • Experience and knowledge of the use of Microsoft application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc) and other spreadsheet applications.

  • Strong interest in cardiovascular research and tissue engineering for both human and veterinary patients.

  • Strong communication skills both oral and written.

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Work individually, demonstrate high flexibility and willing to work as a research member of cardiology/cardiac surgery at VTH .

  • Ability to search and organize literature.

  • Successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by time of application; the Clinical Sciences department will not provide visa sponsorship for these positions

  • Work location: In person

  • Physical capabilities: long period of sitting, standing, carrying heavy items, working on a computer, exposure to cold or hot temperatures, noise and dryness.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Familiarity of statistical analysis

  • Experience in cell culture and cell-based assays, blood processing

  • Grant writing skills and experience

  • Maintaining the laboratory including ordering, making media/solutions, cleaning contaminants, keeping order and other responsibilities to keep the lab running smoothly.

  • Coordinate various activities (research sampling schedule, data collection and protocol test procedures) to ensure appropriate and timely filing of standard regulatory documentation.

  • Process human and animal tissue/blood samples

  • Visit off-site collaborative centers and labs to perform lab activities.

  • Install and validate the proper operation of equipment as needed

  • Generating and maintaining SOPs

  • Manage hazardous waste, training its records

  • Oversight of regulatory compliance for group ( AARF , PARF , IACUC protocol writing, amendment submission and annual reporting to comply with regulations and standards

  • Supervising students, clinicians and other employees utilizing the lab, as needed.
