Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870,Colorado State Universityis among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. TheWalter Scott Jr. College of Engineering( WSCOE ) at Colorado State University is a dynamic and diverse college comprising approximately 170 faculty, 300 postdoctoral scholars and research scientists, 95 academic and administrative staff, 2,500 undergraduate students, and 1,050 graduate students. The College is home to four academic departments serving both graduate and undergraduate students, two departments with graduate-only programs, two interdisciplinary degree-granting programs, and a federal cooperative research institute.

TheEngineering Success Centerwithin the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineeringprovides support and resources to current and prospective engineering undergraduate students. This unit is responsible for undergraduate recruiting efforts, retention initiatives, academic advising, diversity and access initiatives, career support services, administering scholarships, and coordinating WSCOE events. The Engineering Success Center is the first point of contact for many incoming students and their families.

Position Summary

Colorado State University’sWalter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering (https://www.engr.colostate.edu/) is accepting applications for theManager of Undergraduate Recruitment. This is a full-time 12-month Administrative Professional position eligible forUniversity benefits (https://hr.colostate.edu/prospective-employees/our-perks/) . This individual will work in the college’sEngineering Success Center (https://www.engr.colostate.edu/engineering-success-center/) and will report to the Director of the Engineering Success Center.

The Manager of Undergraduate Recruitment is responsible for designing and implementing a strategic plan for recruiting first year and transfer undergraduate students into all majors within the College of Engineering to meet enrollment goals. They will collaborate with CSU Admissions, WSCOE department recruiting representatives, and WSCOE communicators to create and execute communication plans, coordinate events, and provide outreach and engagement opportunities for new prospective and transfer students and their families.

This role is responsible for coordinating and facilitating prospective student visit days, representing the College at recruiting events, college fairs, CSU visit days, transfer events, and all other recruiting related programming. The successful candidate will hire and manage a professional Recruitment Coordinator and a team of 10-15 Student Ambassadors.

The Manager of Undergraduate Recruitment is required to occasionally work non-standard hours (nights and weekend) for seasonal admission and recruiting events and may required to travel locally and nationally for events up to 10% of the time.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the US by the proposed start date; the department will not sponsor a visa for this position.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Three (3) years of professional experience working in college admissions or coordinating recruitment activities for undergraduate students

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, or the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license, or access to a licensed driver by appointment start date for occasional local travel

  • Must be willing and able to travel and work non-standard hours, including nights and weekends, for seasonal admissions recruiting events approximately 10% of the time

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in student affairs or similar area of study

  • Experience tailoring a recruitment strategy and communications message to particular groups of students and families (i.e. transfer students, first-generation students, students of color, high performing students, out of state students, rural students, students from low/limited income backgrounds, women, etc.)

  • Excellent written, verbal, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills with a variety of constituents (students, parents/families/caregivers, colleagues) as demonstrated by written application materials (resume/cover letter) and documented previous experience with public speaking

  • Ability to show initiative and independence as well as ability to function well in an atmosphere that promotes teamwork, demonstrated by past work experience

  • Experience with program and event planning, organizing, and implementation

  • Proficiency using student information systems, such as Banner and Slate, that contribute to a data-driven recruiting environment

  • Experience supervising employees including training, professional development, evaluation, and mentorship

  • Previous work experience at Colorado State University and/or alumni of Colorado State University

  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish

  • Prepare robust, insightful sourcing plans to attract potential candidates that align with department goals set by the Director of Engineering Success Center.

  • Analyzes geodemographic profile of prospects and inquiries in the Slate CRM to determine the pool of students to target for event communications.

  • Research peer and competitor events and marketing products by identifying and evaluating event characteristics, overlap in market share, pricing and communications

  • Consults and collaborates with the Director of the Engineering Success Center, engineering departments, and communicators on strategy and implementation of recruitment visits, events, communications, mailings, and swag distribution.

  • Collaborate with WSCOE communicators to create compelling and accurate messaging to incoming students and their families including specific messaging for specific populations (i.e. transfer students, first-generation students, students of color, high performing students, out of state students, rural students, students from low/limited income backgrounds, women, etc.).

  • Execute recruitment plan in collaboration with college leadership and department advisors/representatives to incorporate goals for increasing enrollment in the WSCOE .

  • Evaluates effectiveness of digital communication campaigns based on open rates, click throughs, and registrations, and provides comparison to industry standards.

  • Coordinate outreach efforts such as telethons, text and mailing campaigns

  • Participate in Admissions events on campus & coordinate WSCOE representation at campus-wide admissions events.

  • Host regular college-wide recruitment meetings to share updates and seek input in developing/implementing recruitment strategy in the WSCOE .

  • Build and maintain relationships with key partners both on and off campus.

  • Coordinate and conduct presentations and interactive workshops and activities to various audiences (prospective students, transfer students, families, staff, faculty, etc.)

  • Work directly with local community colleges to create transfer pipeline to CSU WSCOE .

  • Coordinate outreach, recruitment, and enrollment activities (events, visits, lunches, etc.) for prospective first year and transfer students.

  • Work with other college undergraduate recruitment coordinator(s) to collaborate on outreach opportunities with local and regional high schools.

  • Coordinate college-wide melt prevention communications and events for incoming students and their families.

  • Serve as the college’s first point of contact for all prospective undergraduate and transfer students and families and make decisions about how to best promote the college to students.

  • Schedule, prepare materials for, and coordinate staffing for information sessions and campus visits in cooperation with admissions to meet with local school groups, perspective students and their support systems.

  • Communicate with students throughout their journey through all aspects of the admissions process and tailor messages to reflect a student’s status in the application process (applicant, admit, deposited, etc.)

  • Identify students that would be eligible and could benefit from the WSCOE engineering thematic community and scholarship opportunities (including Scott scholarships); communicate these opportunities.

  • Advocate for prospective students from underrepresented, diverse populations and first-generation students. This includes collaborating with the college’s Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion as well as connecting students with campus partners and the student success team.

  • Assist in educating prospective students and their families about the admissions process and WSCOE majors.

  • Provide excellent and timely customer service to prospective students and their families including coordination of individualized prospective visits that may include college and department tours, one-on-one meetings with faculty and students, and scheduling classroom visits.

  • Be available to answer queries from students and families via phone, email, and text during the workday and often during evenings and weekends.

  • Communicate the value of an Engineering education to a variety of constituents (e.g. students and their families, faculty, professional staff, and other stakeholders).

  • Attend, present, and participate in Admissions/ WSCOE recruitment events, text campaigns, telethons, tours, info sessions, etc.

  • Respond to phone, email, and social media inquiries.

  • Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate 1 full-time recruitment coordinator and their responsibilities as it relates to recruitment and outreach within the college and university.

  • Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate student ambassador team (approximately 10-15 employees) and their responsibilities as it relates to recruitment and outreach within the college and university.

  • Host regular staff meetings and trainings for hourly student ambassador team

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with the supervisor, ensuring effective communication, performance feedback, and ongoing professional development.

  • Complete end-of-year reports detailing staff activities, student success metrics, and advising outcomes to support ongoing improvement and accountability.

  • Participate in large college-wide events such as career fairs, student involvement fairs, and Engineering Days (E-Days), contributing as needed to ensure successful execution.

  • Fulfill administrative duties as assigned, supporting various initiatives and responsibilities within the college.

  • Provide service outside the scope of normal job duties, such as committee work, commission and/or council membership, serving as an advisor, coach, collaborator, mentor, or on a task force, community and/or civic engagement, search committee activities, participation in professional organizations to advance the university and/or college’s scholarly and academic reputations, and volunteer (e.g., assist with commencement, conferences, fairs, move-in days, college and university events outside of immediate job responsibilities, etc.).
