This role is the key leader for Materials, Supply Chain, Production Planning, and Inventory Management. The position is responsible for developing and driving strategic initiatives to support service-level objectives focused on product quality and on-time delivery. This includes leading the Purchasing & Production Planning Team to seamlessly connect Sales, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, Inventory Management, New Product Introduction, and Forecasting. These efforts will translate into capacity and inventory strategies that align with financial targets. The role is also accountable for tracking progress and generating reports on key KPIs related to materials management and the Supply Chain.

Additionally, this position is responsible for career development, skill enhancement, and leadership competency within the team, ensuring job satisfaction, retention, and future talent growth. It provides strategic direction and leadership in delivering advanced analytics services grounded in scientific methodologies and tools. The role also involves developing, implementing, and disseminating metrics and KPIs related to inventory performance and Supply Chain analysis, including the use of dashboards and data visualization tools, along with monitoring and reporting on progress.

Key responsibilities include reviewing and processing MRP order releases, expediting, deferring, and rescheduling recommendations for assigned commodities. The role also involves conducting supplier audits, evaluating new materials and services, and resolving issues related to non-conforming materials. Monitoring open customer order reports and other material planning and availability reports is critical to minimizing product shortages. The position provides independent guidance, recommendations, and analytical data for discussions with the executive team.

Core Job Duties:

  • Develop and execute the implementation of world-class supply chain practices and procedures within the purchasing team.

  • Oversees the development of division-level inventory and supply chain plans that support company strategy, and own inventory strategies (for all milestones) with team and cross-functional/cross-channel peers for Inventory and Materials health. Track progress and develop reports.

  • Own product capacity, quality, and supplier escalations and drive appropriate root cause countermeasures for Materials Operations (Supply Chain and Inventory)

  • Meet with the team regularly to ensure they are achieving the metrics

  • Review forecast accuracy metrics with Demand Planner and investigate root causes of forecast error and develop preventive/corrective actions.

  • Execute and facilitate weekly and monthly global operating reviews to ensure adherence to key business metrics. Drive improvements and maintain metrics for global forecast accuracy, inventory value, capacity, and purchasing metrics

  • Provides independent guidance, recommendations, and analytical data to discuss with the Executive team regularly.

  • Support SKU rationalization and product complexity reduction initiatives to drive operational efficiencies and effectiveness.

  • Support the development, implementation, and sustainment of a comprehensive S&OP process to improve forecast accuracy, inventory optimization, and operating efficiencies.

  • Support Product Lifecycle Change Management efforts to ensure a seamless transition related to new product introductions, BOM changes and RFDs that limit inventory, quality and cost exposure.

Education and Experience:

  • BS or BA with 7-10 years of relevant experience.

  • Progress toward CPIM, CPM, or CSCP certification

  • 4-5 years of supervisory/management experience in supply chain management, purchasing, planning, scheduling, inventory or materials management

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Strong proven background in purchasing electronic components and/or machine-fabricated components.

  • Complete understanding of Manufacturing & Supply Chain Principles.

  • Possess strong organizational/multi-tasking skills.

  • Problem Solving & Decision Making: Able to use rigorous logic and methods to solve problems with effective solutions.

  • Experience in a variety of tools relevant to ERP Systems, SAP knowledge a plus.

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving aptitude.

  • Financial and Business Acumen.

  • Ability to evaluate financial and business indicators and translate data into actionable information to drive results.

  • A strong proficiency in math.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Accountability, self-motivation and follow through to ensure work is properly supporting the department and company goals.

  • Proficient with MS Office applications.

  • Expert level Excel knowledge.

  • Great attention to detail.

  • Experience with ISO9001 or related quality standards.

  • Prior experience working in a lean manufacturing/continuous improvement culture.

  • Willingness to take a ‘hands-on’ approach to supporting purchasing, planning, and inventory management activities.

  • Maintain a high level of professional ethics and ensure departmental adherence to the Topcon Code of Conduct.
