Christensen Farms Feed Mill Maintenance Manager - Forest City, IA in Forest City, Iowa

Position Overview & Responsibilities:

This position will oversee the maintenance operation of our three feed mill facilities, located in Forest City, Iowa, Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, and Atkinson, Nebraska. You will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, and safety standards are met. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to effectively manage a team.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Develop and implement maintenance procedures to ensure the efficient operation of feed mill equipment and machinery.

  • Lead a team of maintenance technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure work is completed in a timely and effective manner.

  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facilities to identify maintenance needs and address any issue promptly.

  • Schedule and prioritize maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and maximize production efficiency.

  • Coordinate with production and quality control teams to schedule maintenance activities without disrupting feed production schedules.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment repairs, and inventory management.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies to create a safe working environment for all employees.

  • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to source spare parts and equipment as needed.

  • Develop and maintain parts and equipment replacement program.

  • Manage parts inventories across Feed Mill locations.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings initiatives within the maintenance department.

  • Assist mill operations in diagnosing feed processing problems and make and make any necessary equipment adjustments.

  • Responsible for gathering bids and quotes for parts and repairs to plant.

  • Manage subcontractors to ensure quality work and completion of projects according to bid and specifications.

  • Oversee parts inventories at each mill location

  • Assure preventive maintenance is being done to the schedule at each mill location.

    Education, Training and Experience Requirements:

  • 4-year degree in engineering or 10 plus years in feed mill maintenance and/or operational leadership.

  • Proven experience in a maintenance management role within the feed mill or agricultural industry.

  • Strong technical knowledge of feed mill equipment and machinery, including pellet mills, mixers, conveyors, and boilers.

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.

  • Solid understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.

  • Proficiency in management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to implement and use maintenance software (CMMS).

    Specialized or Motorized Equipment and/or Tools:

    This position will require operating a company vehicle, or occasional mileage reimbursement. Any employment offer for this position is contingent upon the review of your motor vehicle record (MVR). The MVR will be reviewed to determine insurability based on CFF's insurance carrier and company policy.
