Job Title: Electrical Distribution Engineer

Job Description

You will be responsible for independently developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems for electric utility customers. This role focuses on system reliability and improvement by replacing old equipment or upgrading to new equipment. You will review client-provided work and assess the scope requirements. Depending on available support, fieldwork may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems.

  • Improve system consistency by replacing or upgrading equipment.

  • Review and assess client-provided work scopes.

  • Perform fieldwork including taking photos and measurements of specific sites or circuits.

  • Create designs using Open Utilities, a MicroStation-based CAD system.

  • Conduct energy analysis to ensure selected materials meet site requirements.

  • Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered in SAP/Material Tracking Software.

  • Assist with permits for utility lines crossing roads, easements, private property, or tree removal.

  • Submit electrical construction packages for approval and make revisions as needed.

  • Use Poleforman or similar software for structural analysis and wood pole integrity.

  • Ensure compliance with National Electric Safety Codes (NESC).

  • Collaborate with Quality Control approvers for necessary changes before final submission.

  • Communicate frequently with clients via email, phone, and Teams.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Technology (ME/EE).

  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Catia, MicroStation.

  • Knowledge of National Electric Safety Codes (NESC).

  • Experience with electric distribution design or engineering.

  • Strong understanding of distribution construction & design standards.

  • Experience in QA/Quality Assurance or QC/Quality Control.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with electric utility companies such as Consumers Energy, DTE, AEP, Direct Energy, Atlantic Energy, Great American Power, Horizon Power and Light, Duke Energy, NIPSCO, or electric utility consulting firms like Sigma Technologies, Pike, Orbital, Metro Engineering Solutions, Burns and Mac.

  • Experience with Poleforman, Pole Loading Analysis, Katapault, or similar software.

  • Experience in training new employees and writing process standards.

  • Entry-level candidates or designers with an associate's degree or relevant distribution or utility experience are encouraged to apply.

Work Environment

The role may require fieldwork in locations such as Muskegon, Ludington, Cadillac, Alma, Claire, West Branch, Traverse City, Saginaw, Owosso, and Lansing. Ideally, candidates should live within a 60-mile radius of these locations. Fieldwork involves taking photos and measurements, which will be used to create final designs. The work environment includes a mix of office work and potential remote work flexibility after a few months. The company supports continuous growth by helping employees prepare for their FE and PE exams.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr.
