University of Michigan Flint Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education, College of Arts, Sciences & Education in Flint, Michigan

The University of Michigan-Flint Department of Education invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position with teaching skills and research/scholarly expertise in an area closely related or specific to mathematics education. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2025. The position is a 9-month appointment with responsibility for teaching in multiple modalities (some combination of online, face to face, hyperflex, hybrid, on and off campus, and possible weekends), research, and service.. The position requires an earned doctorate in mathematics education or a closely related field. It is expected that the candidate will have expertise in mathematics. Successful candidates should have a well-articulated research agenda. A minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience, or equivalent, in elementary/middle school settings is required.

Faculty member responsibilities will include planning and teaching courses in mathematics education; engaging in service to the department, school, and university; and maintaining an active agenda of scholarly activities and research leading to publications.

Candidates are also expected to have a commitment to the educational aspirations of diverse students; knowledge of issues of multiculturalism, diversity, and equity; and an interest in school partnerships and community initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in mathematics education or closely related field.
  • An established or emerging research agenda with evidence of successful scholarship
  • Evidence of at least 3-5 years of teaching experiences, or the equivalent, in elementary/middle school settings
  • Knowledge of issues of diversity and equity in mathematics education
  • Experience teaching at the university level in a variety of formats (e.g., including online, hybrid, and face-to-face)
  • Ability to direct Ed.D. dissertation research, specifically use of systematic literature reviews
  • Focus in geometry
  • Experience supervising students' clinical placements

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with a variety of constituencies, including administrators, teachers and community partners
