The Graphic Designer will join Marathon Petroleum’s in-house team of graphic designers, which is part of the Creative Services team, and will support a wide range of graphic design projects and needs for the company. This role will create visual communications solutions across multiple media, including print and digital communications, and will engage directly with internal clients. Work product may be used for both internal and external purposes, depending on the client’s specific needs. As a Graphic Designer, this individual is expected to manage their own projects, contribute to projects others may be leading, and collaborate with fellow Creative Services team members (video, photography, multimedia design) to ensure optimal delivery of multi-disciplinary creative projects. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and detail-oriented with a strong passion for design and problem solving and able to work within pre-established brand guidelines. The Creative Services team is part of MPC’s Communications & Community Relations organization.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs and creates engaging print and digital assets for company publications, presentations, flyers, brochures, digital signage, email, social media, websites, print advertisements, booklets, maps, slides, graphs, videos and other corporate creative projects using a wide range of artistic techniques.

  • Works efficiently to identify artistic requirements, create concepts and deliver production-ready files and/or final materials.

  • Manages tasks to ensure deliverables are completed on time and within budget; considers client budget implications when creating and developing concepts.

  • Meets with clients at all organizational levels to discuss and define design and communication objectives; communicates design strategy and rationale to clients.

  • Develops expertise on proper use of company logos/trademarks and company’s brand standards and visual guidelines.

  • Collaborates with internal print shop and/or external vendors to provide art files for production of printed materials, including booklets, signs, banners, stickers and other collateral, promotional items and display materials.

  • Inspects color proofs of printed pieces and attends press checks when a project is complex or warrants close professional attention.

  • Develops and maintains complete project files for all assignments; compiles and maintains a record of activities, supplies and project time in assigned areas.

  • Implements design strategies that support and reinforce an inclusive company culture.

  • Works cross-functionally with other Communications teams to ensure consistency and cohesion, including Communications Business Partners, HR Communications, Digital and Social Media, and Event Services.

  • Identifies professional learning and development opportunities and contributes to the overall development of the team’s collective skills and expertise.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, digital design, commercial art, visual communications or related field required

  • Minimum four (4) years of professional graphic design experience required, preferably in an in-house or agency setting

  • Experience designing on a PC platform preferred; Strong willingness to learn design programs on a PC platform required

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite required (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Portfolio of work showcasing a range of creative projects

SKILLS

  • Strong design, typography and layout skills

  • Sharp eye for details, aesthetics and an understanding of composition

  • Great creative concepting skills and ability to communicate those ideas effectively

  • Compelling visual storyteller

  • Ability to understand and work within brand standards

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage projects simultaneously and work effectively in a fast-paced, high-output environment in addition to adapting to changing priorities and deadlines

  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and limited information and engaging client to reach clarity

  • Ability to independently manage all aspects of a project effectively, from concepting to production, including on-time delivery

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build good working relationships with internal clients and vendors

  • High curiosity; eager to learn and understand a wide range of energy industry subject matter

Work Schedule: 4 days onsite and 1 day remote from home (no options for 100% remote)
