How you’ll shape the future of the Central Maintenance Team:

  • Supervise safety and housekeeping of work performed by hourly maintenance employees. Hold weekly safety meetings and ensure employees perform work safely. Develop a personal safety action plan which includes having meaningful one-on-one safety discussions with each employee each month. Develop written safety expectations and review these with the team often. Encourage the reporting of near misses and follow up on corrective actions to prevent similar incidents.

  • Supervise, schedule and direct the day-to-day activities of the group, ensuring that maintenance activities are planned and scheduled. Assist other maintenance leaders and operating supervisors in determining work priorities, and standards of work quality, as required, for continually improving facilities and equipment reliability. Counsel with employees to hear suggestions and complaints. Participate in grievance hearings.

  • Ensure condition monitoring systems in the area provide accurate and timely indications of potential failures. Take corrective actions before failures occur.

  • Continually review and update specifications for products and services provided as part of the mill maintenance services. Compare new products, services, and methods with existing offerings, to ensure the most effective and efficient use of maintenance resources available to the mill. Consult with Engineering to assure standardization. Interface with stores supervisor to maintain adequate spare parts.

  • Assist in the development of long-range maintenance programs designed to more effectively reduce maintenance costs and improve operating efficiency. Encourage maintenance personnel to bring forth ideas.

  • Plan, schedule, coordinate and direct maintenance requirements for mill shutdowns and long-range planning of larger projects. Meet with planners and area operations to produce schedules.

  • Assist in the development and the control of the maintenance budget for maintenance.

  • Help with the maintenance of drawings and records for the mill. Gather technical information for equipment records, record maintenance repairs, engineered alterations, changes of equipment, and continually monitor the integrity of record keeping systems.

  • Manage, record, and report the mill wide maintenance equipment outage schedule.

  • Responsible for developing and directing all technical training for maintenance personnel in this area.

  • Ensure mechanics are using precision maintenance techniques and are following all precision maintenance policies and procedures.

  • Utilize the computerized maintenance management system in performing duties and adhere to all policies and procedures required in the system.

  • Ensure accuracy of mechanical timekeeping. Also, responsible for vacation and floating holiday requests and absentee form completion.

  • Available for on call for emergencies that arise in area of responsibility. Schedule weekend duty for mill wide maintenance coordination.

  • Contribute to improving safety performance within area of responsibility by incorporating job specific safety requirements into job plans. Responsible for describing a maintenance job in terms of how it is to be performed, defining the precision maintenance requirements of the job, what materials and equipment are required and all other resources required to execute the work in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Plan all applicable work within the assigned area of responsibility. “Planning” includes: managing corrective and PM work backlog; providing detailed estimates of key work steps, materials, manpower, and additional resources for all planned work; providing work scope or materials specifications to materials management and assisting in quotation evaluation and purchasing decisions; maintaining an up-to-date planned backlog of “down day” work for outages; documenting actual requirements on completed work orders; properly closing work orders; and handling of associated financial paperwork.

  • Update and correct equipment files, specifications, parts lists, descriptions, etc. as errors or outdated information are encountered.

You’ll be someone who can bring:

  • Degree in Engineering or 10 years maintenance experience in a manufacturing production environment preferred.

  • Machine and finishing pulp mill systems and operations plus thorough understanding of mechanical systems.

  • Experience managing fire systems.

  • Proven leadership ability.

  • Ability to work in a team based environment.
