V2X Ground Support Equipment Mechanic (DPW) in Fayetteville, North Carolina

The Ground Support Equipment Mechanic (GSE) works under the guidance of the Team Lead and Supervisor. The GSE will perform schedule and unscheduled repairs, operate and inspect various types of commercial equipment, non-tactical vehicles, some military equipment, controllers, heating units, generators and other transmission equipment in order to perform troubleshooting actions and diagnose defects; examine parts for damage or excessive wear; repair or replace parts as required; service, repair, rebuild, overhaul and maintain the aforementioned types of equipment, as well as major assemblies and components of that equipment including engines, transmissions, fuel injection systems, hydraulic systems, ignition systems and electrical systems.

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
Perform schedule/unscheduled repairs, tests, operates, on wheeled/track and commercial equipment, including Graders, Tractors, Loaders, Skid Steer, Tub Grinder, Bulldozers; In additional Non Tactical ie… Fords, Volvo, Internationl, Peterbilt and etc..to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation.
Services equipment components with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, disassembles and assembles malfunctioning accessories and components.
Removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls components and accessories.
Disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
Operates, cleans, inspects, and services wheeled and ground equipment for maintenance purposes.
Practices good housekeeping, property accountability control, and safety at all times.
Additional responsibilities include working with a variety of repair and test equipment including welders, torches, pressure testers and electrical testers to name a few.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic condition.
Work requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolong sitting and occasional working in cramped and awkward position.
Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.
A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week). Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires, which may require travel 10% of the year.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Must be able to climb up and down ladders and stairs, as well as bend, twist, and squad for prolonged periods.
Must be able to pull, push and lift up to 50 pounds.
Function in conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must have a valid State Driver’s License with no restrictions.
Applicant must provide their own tools (general mechanics tool set)
Must be able to successful pass a background check and drug screening
Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI Public Trust
Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a U.S. Passport.
Must be able to maintain driving privileges aboard the Fort Liberty Installation.
EXPERIENCE:
At least three (3) to six (6) years of experience in Automotive/ General Equipment maintenance or an equivalent.
SKILLS:
Ability to service and repair some tactical, non-tactical, commercial and construction equipment.
Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and cooling systems and components on various construction equipment, tracked vehicles, lawn equipment and other small engine systems in accordance with appropriate procedures and publications.
Ability to analyze and interpret publications with relation to vehicle maintenance and repair.
Ability to verify serviceability of equipment, determine the economic reparability of the item and determine the extent of maintenance effort and repair parts required to restore the item to the prescribed serviceable condition.
Possess knowledge of safety and environmental issues as they related to vehicle maintenance.
