The Challenge
We are looking for a skilled Engineering Technician to join our Southern Ave Engineering team as a lead project inspector serving Cumberland and Harnett counties.
In this role, you will:
- Be a lead project inspector conducting independent complex inspections of structure and roadway items for project construction.
- Review safety- and environmental-related items.
- Supervise junior inspectors performing routine and moderately complex inspections of roadway and structure construction processes and materials to assure compliance with contract agreements, standards, and specifications.
What You Bring
- Knowledge and understanding of NCDOT highway and bridge construction.
- Knowledge and understanding of contracts, plans, standards, and specifications.
- Working knowledge and skills using computers, software, and math functions.
- Experience performing inspections, sampling, and materials testing (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
- Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports.
- Ability to evaluate and apply engineering judgement to plan interpretations.
- Communications skills to establish and maintain positive communications between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
- Agility to traverse rough terrain in evaluation of highway construction.
- You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Ability to work in close proximity of high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
- Attention to detail to accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished.
- Ability to safely drive a State vehicle.
- Safety toe shoes.
Education and Experience
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
