Sargent & Lundy Protection & Controls Intern - Fall Internship in Farmington Hills, Michigan
Description
This internship opportunity offers you the chance to explore the electric utility industry and develop the skills necessary to create the power grid of tomorrow. If you have an interest in the generation of power through fossil, nuclear, renewables, an interest in the transmission and/or distribution of power, or your passion is the science behind power and the impacts of its waveforms, it all starts with the basics.
The focus of the internship will cover:
Drafting basics: The basis of engineering are the prints we create for a project.
Creation a bill of material: Selection & evaluation of materials required for the project.
Schematics: The basics of relays, coils, circuit design, and the difference between series & parallel connections.
Wiring diagrams: Exposure to different types of wiring diagrams representations, typical industry.
Basic power concepts: Substation configurations and protection schemes.
Tools of the trade: Microsoft suite, Deltek, Bluebeam, AcSELerator Quickset.
By the end of the program, individuals should be able to prepare project designs to create the power grid of tomorrow.
Please note that this internship position does not provide a subsidy for relocation expenses.
Qualifications
We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.
Essential skills and experience:
Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited institution, or an Associates degree in drafting or equivalent technical experience.
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite Office applications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional work habits; self-motivated, group oriented
2D and/or 3D CAD experience in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
Valued but not required skills and experience:
Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community
Prior, related internship or co-op experience
