This announcement will be used to fill intermittent (substitute) Licensed Practical Nurses at the Minnesota State Academies (for the Blind and for the Deaf) in Faribault, Minnesota.

Minnesota State Academies is a K-12 residential school for deaf/hard of hearing youth, blind/visually impaired youth and deaf/blind youth. The School Year typically begins the end of August and ends the first week of June. There is also the possibility of a couple of weeks of work in the summer during summer school programming.

To provide health care services to students at the Minnesota State Academies including administering medications and treatments to students; maintaining health care record system; communicating with parents and staff; providing nurturing, child friendly environment; coordinating nursing cares to adapt to school, residential and/or athletic activities; maintain sanitary clinic facilities. Individuals selected to be hired will work as an Intermittent (substitute) nurse when current nursing staff are unavailable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the Minnesota Board of Nursing.

  • Knowledge pertaining to health care as required for licensure as a practical nurse.

  • Knowledge of child development.

  • The ability to read/write English sufficient to understand written policies, procedures, communication and to complete documentation/maintain health records.

  • The ability to respond quickly to emergencies utilizing nursing skills and first aid training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience/background working with children/students in a school setting.

  • Knowledge of/or experience working with persons who are Blind/Visually Impaired, Deaf/Hard of Hearing or Deaf/Blind

  • American Sign Language skills

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance; incumbents are required to possess the physical ability to respond quickly to emergencies.

This position requires successful completion of the criminal background check.
