Steamship Authority Assistant Port Engineer in Falmouth, Massachusetts

The Steamship Authority is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Port Engineer to assist the Port Engineers with the day-to-day Engineering Department operations and maintenance activities of the Authority\'s fleet as well as assisting the Port Engineers in planning, organizing, scheduling the efficient utilization of the fleet using The Asset Guardian (TAG) to monitor the day to day preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance activities of the fleet. In cooperation with the Port Engineers, Project Engineer, Vessel Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor, assisting with repair and shipyard maintenance planning; and schedule compliance to ensure efficient maintenance activities. This position also coordinates with the Vessel Maintenance Manager for manpower planning of craft personnel when working aboard vessels in operational status. Duties and Responsibilities: Engine Department Utilization and Performance: Assists with the efficient and effective use of vessel engineering plants. Assists Port Engineers and Vessel staff with routine USCG and other regulatory inspections. Assist with the disposition of USCG 835 deficiencies and other imposed citations. Fleet Maintenance Monitoring, Scheduling, Planning and Inventory Control: Utilizes TAG to develop operating, monitoring, scheduling, planning and inventory control standards as a means of measuring and improving maintenance and operational performance. With the assistance of the CMMS Planner, monitors, evaluates and assesses training needs of Sr. Chief Engineers and Sr. Captains in their performance in the use of TAG. Training/Safety: Assists Port Engineers and Operations and Communications Center Manager with implementation of training based on budget allocations, statutory requirements and SSA policy. Monitor the status of training efforts and make determinations regarding continuation of training based on needs. Coordinates with Operations Department and Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental Manager to ensure safety issues are documented through the TAG system and remedied in a timely manner. In coordination with the Port Engineers and Vessel Maintenance Manager, conducts periodic safety audits of the vessels and maintenance facilities to ensure continued compliance with SSA and regulatory standards. Duty Schedule: Shall be available to respond to emergency calls after hours. Shall be required to alternate management weekend duty assignment with Assistant Port Engineer, Port Engineers, Vessel Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor as directed. Perform duties of Port Engineers in their absence. Required Knowledge: Must possess a bachelor\'s degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent, be highly computer literate, familiar with CMMS programs and have previous experience in the operation and maintenance of main propulsion and auxiliary systems in a marine environment. The Assistant Port Engineer must hold a minimum U.S.C.G limited Chief Engineer\'s license. Maritime Academy Graduate (Preferred).
