Responsible for the provision of recreation and leisure activities to patients.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. State and Federal regulations require that the candidate must be qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or have 2 years in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, 1 year of which was full time in a patient activities program in a health care setting. 2. Candidate who is not a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist must be willing to complete a WV/90 hour Activity Director's certification course, within one year of hire. 3. Must be familiar with MDS 3.0 and establishing individual care plans. EXPERIENCE: 1. One (1) year of pertinent activity coordination in a skilled care setting or enrolled in WV/90 hour Activity Director's certification course.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Organizes a patient activities program for both individuals and groups, as appropriate, based upon individual and unit needs, promoting patient well-being. 2. Plans, Organizes, and implements leisure activities, including physical, social, religious, creative/expressive, intellectual and other as appropriate. 3. Works with unit managers and staff to identify and provide unit-based leisure activity programs and opportunities for patients. 4. Ensures coverage of weekend and evening activities as needed. 5. Integrates activities into patient plan of care and documents in patient record as appropriate. 6. Accepts referral from units and physicians to visit patients. 7. Provides administrative support to the ECF Department as needed. 8. Assesses referred patients for leisure interests, needs, and problems. 9. Involves and informs healthcare professionals, family members, and others of activities and responses as indicated. 10. Communicates patient needs/concerns through proper chain of command, assuring patient needs/requests are being met. 11. Maintains records and other documentation as indicated. 12. Collects, organizes, and analyses programmatic data as needed. 13. Orders supplies and equipment applicable to Patient Activities program use. 14. Assists with budget control. 15. Develops and implements activities appropriate to each patient. 16. May orient and provide supervision to activity staff and/or volunteers.
