Job Description:
DIVISION: General Administration
DEPARTMENT: Public Safety
BASIC FUNCTION: Performs traffic enforcement functions in conjunction with Department of Public Safety related laws and regulations. This may include both traffic and parking control. The incumbent’s main responsibility is to issue traffic violations. In addition, he/she will staff the Parking Office issuing permits and assists Public Safety Officers in basic safety responsibilities.
UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Working outdoors in all weather conditions and may work irregular and/or off shift hours.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED:
EDUCATION: High School diploma
EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated effective communication skills; general computer skills; public safety experience is helpful.
REPORTS TO: Associate Director, Public Safety , DPS
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Issues traffic and parking violation tickets.
2. Assists Department of Public Safety Officers:
In the patrol of grounds, monitoring for irregularities or suspicious activity
Directing traffic
Parking control
3. Participates in the professional development of the department. This
involves:
Promoting an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community and consistent with the Department of Public Safety’s mission
Acting as a responsible committee representative as requested
Attending departmental staff meetings as requested
4. Promotes safe and secure working conditions. This involves:
Promoting the proper utilization of equipment and materials
Notifying supervisor immediately of any unsafe conditions
5. Staff the Parking Office as needed. This includes:
Issuing parking permits
Receiving Traffic Appeal Forms
Answering phones/questions
Computer maintenance
6. Performs other related duties as directed.
7. This is an unarmed position with distinct uniform different from DPS.
8. Assist with Fairfield Prep traffic.
