Job Description:
GDIT is seeking an Infrastructure Solutions Architect to join our program, driving innovative solutions, and shaping the technological landscape for a large biomedical research community with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
Our program is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing all enterprise infrastructure technologies and solutions to include both on-prem and cloud. In your role as an Infrastructure Solutions Architect, you will be at the forefront of designing and implementing cutting-edge systems, leveraging your deep technical knowledge to address complex business and scientific research challenges. Your strategic vision and collaborative approach will be instrumental in guiding our customers towards scalable and efficient solutions that meet their evolving needs. Please Note: This position is full-time remote, anywhere in the US, with travel as needed for special projects to the client sites in MD or MT. Estimated travel is 1-2x times a year for 2-3 days. There can be an opportunity to work from the customer site in Rockville, MD more regularly for those local to the area, if preferred.

HOW AN INFRASTRUCTURE SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Work closely and regularly with all relevant stakeholders to design solutions for NIAID’s Operations and Engineering technology portfolio to include solutions for cloud and on-prem application hosting, data life cycle management for large scientific datasets, data protection and backup, and high performance computing.
Use second-order thinking to identify the short, medium, and long term consequences of any particular architecture and decisions to identify risks, understand impact, meet requirements, and continue to drive value.
In partnership with technical team leads and SME’s, develop technical roadmaps to outline 12 – 36 month plans to achieve strategic goals and continually improve services across portfolio.
Write clear and concise documentation and diagrams. Create slides and give presentations to engineers and executive leadership pitching new technology solutions and ideas to continually improve services to support scientific research.
Teach and mentor team members on system design, codifying best practices, and automation techniques through 1:1 learning sessions and formal webinar tech talks.
Develop Minimally Viable Products (MVPs) to try new emerging technologies and solutions and encourage the adoption of new innovative technologies and ways of working.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Required skills and experience:
BS/BA (or equivalent) and 15+ years related experience (or equivalent education and experience)
10+ years’ experience as an architect with cloud and enterprise infrastructure technologies in a medium to large enterprise
Hands-on AWS architecture experience to include:
Completed or worked on a medium-to-large scale on-premise to AWS migration including structured and unstructured date and applications
Networking to include Virtual Private Cloud (VPC,) Direct Network (DX), Transit Gateway (TGW), etc.
Designing a secure and scalable multi-account architecture
Creating cloud-native solutions for new and refactored applications
Experience securing AWS infrastructure
Experience designing and building CI/CD pipelines
Experience using Git to manage shared software configuration code bases.
Understanding of the software development lifecycle
Infrastructure-as-code experience to include extensive experience with Terraform, writing custom modules from scratch, and helping guide and direct the evolution of a large and growing codebase
Strong understanding of containers and container orchestration
Good understanding of High Performance Compute (HPC) clusters to include experience architecting and implementing on-premise clusters including parallel file systems, Infiniband networks, and schedulers.
Must be able to obtain a NIH Public Trust
Desired skills and experience:
Excellent communication skills
Writing code (Python, Ruby, base, etc.) from scratch to solve problems
Good understanding of data protection and backup solutions to include experience designing and building solutions for both on-prem and cloud data protection
Experience working in a life-sciences oriented environment
Experience with DevOps or DevSecOps methodologies, such as automation and configuration management experience with Linux systems to include technologies such as Ansible and Puppet
Strong troubleshooting skills
The likely salary range for this position is $170,000 - $230,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
