HANDS OF MERCY Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Fairfax, Virginia

We are looking for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to join our team to assist individuals with disabilities to learn, grow and become more independent. If you enjoy interacting with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and supporting their clinical teams and families, wed like to meet with you! The DSP is responsible for providing assistance to program participants with activities of daily living (ADLs), household management and community-based shopping or appointments; working closely with the family members and others to support the program participant to progress toward more independent community living. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A high school diploma or equivalent. One years experience in providing direct support preferably with individuals who are intellectually disabled-Preferred.
  2. Ability to understand, speak, read and write fluent English; sensitive to clients needs-Must.
  3. Strongly prefer that a candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations, can communicate effectively, use good judgment, high energy level, function well in a team atmosphere; perform basic computer functions.
  4. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  5. Must have a valid drivers license and access to an operational and insured vehicle in addition to willingness to use it to transport residents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist residents with all activities of daily living, including showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, feeding, taking medications, and Range of Motion (ROM) exercises, both in the home and in the community.
  2. Prepare meals and provide deep housekeeping.
  3. Assist residents with managing home, activities; following goals in the annual service plan.
  4. Assist individuals with self-administering medications.
  5. Respond promptly to individuals requests for assistance.
  6. Assist with teaching appropriate social and independent living skills.
  7. Encourage program participants to perform tasks as independently as possible, assisting them to participate in all activities to the maximum extent possible.
  8. Accurately document provision of care as directed.
  9. Stay current with changes in care/support (e.g. medications, treatments, behavior plans, etc.).
  10. Alert program management in the event of an individuals change in status or behavior.
  11. Assist with weighing individuals, and gathers and records other data as requested.
  12. Complete all documentation and incident reports within program timelines.
  13. Actively participates in resident, family, team and staff meetings
  14. Attend trainings as assigned maintain certification of required trainings (CPR, First Aid, CPI and Medication). Must successfully complete medication administration competency exam.
  15. Drives facility vehicles
  16. Other Duties Assigned.

The following Full Time and Part Time shifts are open and may change: Monday-Friday 11pm-9am; 4pm-9pm; 3pm-11pm Saturday and Sunday 8 hr shifts during day shift and 10 hr shifts overnight.
