Description

GMC'sFairburncampus (320 NW Broad St., Fairburn, GA 30213) is now hiring for a full-time Library Media Specialist. This position is responsible for providing inspired leadership, library/instructional services and curriculum-related materials to students, faculty, and staff. Supports faculty and students with classroom technology and makes technological updates/recommendations to meet changing needs. Provides tier 1 helpdesk support to students to answer basic questions concerning learning/instructional technologies and to resolve basic login/password issues with GMC student accounts. Provides instruction on library resources/media use, along with reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff, including developing instructional materials for available reference resources. Conducts general and/or subject-specific library instruction presentations for Perspectives/First Year Experience courses on library database research and assists with orientations to promote critical thinking and foster lifelong learning.

Primary Responsibilities

Library Related:

  • Assists students and faculty in the library area with questions regarding campus technology, research, electronic resources, and compiling information for reports and projects.

  • Provides instruction on use of library and reference services by assisting students, faculty, and staff in the utilization of online resources and services and specific software programs (e.g., GALILEO, MS Office applications, web browsing, etc.).

  • Facilitates general and discipline-specific class presentations in the areas of database research and information literacy at the request of instructors; facilitates general library orientations for Perspectives/First Year Experience courses, New Student Orientations, and Faculty Meetings.

  • Develops and maintains instructional materials, brochures, other promotional materials for the campus library.

  • Participates in the activities of campus.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Media/Technology Related:

  • Works with Main campus to resolve tier 1 student, faculty, and staff IT helpdesk tickets on accounts and learning technologies.

  • Coordinates laptops and laptop cart usage for classes at the campus.

  • Maintains library digital signage on campus.

  • Assists students and faculty with access and software-related/classroom technology programs (Moodle, GMC Online, MS Office, etc.).

  • Assists students with printing and wireless accessibility on campus (Bulldog Printing and WIFI POC).

  • Assists with classroom technology when needed (login/basic use of Windows based classroom instructor computers, ViewSonic digital display boards, etc.)

  • When applicable, develops and distributes promotional materials for social media and email announcements regarding the library and student affairs. May aid in developing promotional materials, graduation programs, and campus newsletters.

Qualifications

Education:

Required: Bachelor's Degree

*Or one or more years of college library services experience

Experience

Required: Knowledge of advanced search skills and ability to accurately navigate students in databases for scholarly research.

Preferred: 1-2 years’ experience with library services

Skills

Required: Technologically proficient, strong familiarity with library resources and online databases, strong familiarity with catalog, training and coaching skills, strong customer service skills.

Preferred: Advanced technology skills, advanced familiarity with library resources and online databases, and customer service skills. Strong presentation and communication skills.
