Queen's Health System Float Technician - West Float Pool (Full-Time, 40, Day/Evening) in Ewa Beach, Hawaii

RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for the safe transfer and transport of patients and items from one area of the hospital to another, to support transport needs to and from buildings related to the Medical Center.

• Responsible for safely performing and teaching patient lifts/transfers by utilizing appropriate body mechanics, lifting equipment, following proper procedures and working collaboratively with Nursing, Rehab, and other caregivers.

• Performs a variety of duties pertaining to patient care, material and supply distribution and equipment assembly.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Essential: standing, walking, stooping/bending, squatting, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, writing, and reading English, lifting up to maximum 50 pounds, pushing/pulling up to maximum 50 pounds of force; carrying up to 40 pounds for a distance of 10 feet, reaching above/at/below shoulder level, repetitive arm/hand motions.

• Frequent: gripping of an object, pushing and pulling up to 30 pounds of force, lifting up to 10 pounds, sitting, bending.

• Occasional: climbing stairs.

• Operates: May operate and/or utilize gurneys, wheelchairs, mechanical lifts, phone, back belts, gait belts, carts, computer, printer, calculator, copier, telephone, patient care equipment, supply/exchange carts, Omnicell.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

• May be exposed to outside environmental conditions.

• Some exposure to chemicals, odors, communicable diseases, body fluids, and hazardous materials.

• Exposure to body fluids, blood products, and communicable diseases.

• Work environment may be highly stressful, fast paced and hectic.

• Management of confused/disoriented and combative patients may involve tasks which may compromise physical safety.

• Exposure to odors and fumes in Morgue and on nursing floors.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Current BLS/HCP CPR certification.

B. EXPERIENCE:

• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English, both orally and in writing.

• Minimum one (1) year work experience as a Nurse Aide, or:

o Diploma or certificate as a Nurse Aide.

o Diploma or certificate as a Medical Assistant.

o Diploma or certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician.

o Diploma or certificate as a Patient Care Technician.

• Prior work experience in an acute care facility preferred.
