Position Responsibilities:

  • Utilize online computing systems to access and utilize the Equipment Service Manual.

  • Conduct visual inspections of the unit under test to identify any discrepancies that may impact accuracy.

  • Set up the unit under repair (transit, laser tracker, theodolite) using appropriate support fixtures (alignment bench, carts, test stand) and attachments (targets, mounts, adapters).

  • Perform preliminary adjustments and zeroing of the instrument before diagnosing the item under repair.

  • Perform repair work based on non-conformance reports from calibration/certification inspections and/or customers.

  • Clean delicate surfaces and optical paths (bearing races, optics, electrical components) using suitable solvents and materials.

  • Repair, modify, and calibrate conventional optical instruments (levels, alignment scopes, microscopes) and computer-aided optical instruments (theodolite, laser tracker, V-Stars) using appropriate instruments (voltmeter, collimator, interferometer).

  • Verify the accuracy of in-process repairs and completed instruments, with precision up to millionths of an inch/arc second.

  • Utilize mathematical computations (algebra, geometry, trigonometry) to set up, repair, and calibrate the unit under repair.

  • Troubleshoot, test, repair, modify, and install various types of computer/electronic systems used in experimental and production optical measuring systems.

  • Perform computer upgrades for the operation of 3D measuring systems, including software and component configuration.

  • Remove/install optical components for grinding, polishing, and coating lenses and prisms according to customer requirements.

  • Maintain, repair, and adjust mechanical/electrical components (motors, bearings, leveling screws) to facilitate adjustments of optical components.

  • Operate fabrication equipment (conventional/NC lathe and/or mill, drill press, grinders) to construct optical/electrical test fixtures and accessories (photo sensors, alignment fixtures, test stands).

  • Utilize precision measurement tools as necessary.

  • Support Manufacturing Research and Development (MR&D) in the design, layout, fabrication, assembly, and setup of new technology measuring systems (photogrammetry, scanning lasers) and associated accessories (adapters, targets, mounts).

  • Collaborate with MR&D engineers to provide documentation and sketches for new part designs in the Boeing Optical Tool catalog.

  • Develop methods and procedures for optical measurement processes used in repair and calibration tasks.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience with optics, lasers, electronics, mechanical or instrumentation.

  • 2+ years experience with conventional and numerical control machines.

  • Experience in optical equipment assembly and repair.

Relocation:

Other Relevant Information & Requirements:

This position will require ability to travel 10-20% of the time.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: $36.00 - $51.30
