DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

You will be a part of a team that supports safe, continuous daily operations by providing routine maintenance, inspections, alterations, and repairs throughout the hospital.

Summary

Performs a variety of general maintenance, preventative maintenance, repairs, and construction duties in all areas of the hospital and related buildings.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic electrical maintenance duties, such as; replacing light bulbs & fuses, maintaining electrical closets, testing emergency batteries/ lights, and reporting deficiencies to facilities management.

  • Performs basic plumbing duties such as; fixing leaking faucets, replacing parts, cleaning out traps, and unclogging sinks/ toilets.

  • Performs mechanical duties such as inspecting equipment, and devices/machines for defects, dismantling to gain access to defective parts, and repairing or replacing them.

  • Repairs hospital furniture and equipment such as stretchers, doors, locks, and door closers; involving replacing and adjusting.

  • Paints floors and walls, lays tile and performs rough carpentry duties.

  • Uses hospital vehicles for pickup of equipment and supplies as requested, and travel to offsite facilities as needed.

  • Moves furniture, file cabinets, beds, tables, and boxes as required. May move systems furniture as needed.

  • Must know how to operate emergency generators in emergencies.

  • May be required to shovel, sand, and salt all areas of the hospital, such as fire exits, pathways to generators, and CHA vehicles to make it safe for all persons entering the hospital or parking garages.

  • May be required to work overtime when necessary/ carry pager on a rotating schedule.

  • Performs all other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Equivalent to 4 years of High School vocation training. Must be mechanically inclined.

  • Must have experience in basic electricity, plumbing, HVAC, painting, and carpentry. Must be familiar with the use of most small power tools.

  • Comfortable working on computers which includes Microsoft Word and Excel, communicating via email, and comfortable with computerized maintenance management systems.
