Job Description Summary
The Staff Engineer for Electronics and Embedded Systems will be responsible for developing and deploying the next generation of sensor and measurement systems for GE Aerospace Engine Test. You will work hands-on in a collaborative team to design and integrate sensor electronics, electrical hardware, and data acquisition systems. You will participate in system-level integration with engine and test site hardware to ensure successful operation of the sensor systems and data acquisition. You will interpret sensor data and deliver clear insights to customers that can be used to understand engine and component performance and health. You will lead creation and execution of roadmaps for sensor technology maturation as you help to develop the future of engine and component testing.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Work collaboratively to design, procure, and evaluate sensor and measurement systems to acquire data on engine and component tests
Develop and test sensor electronics, electrical systems, signal conditioning systems, and front-end data acquisition
Lead roadmaps for sensor technology development and maturation and proactively apply new technologies
Integrate advanced sensors with test data systems and/or engine control systems
Gather and translate customer requirements into executable measurement system specifications
Plan and lead laboratory and field validation testing and data acquisition
Formulate and implement project plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules and contract commitments
Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams; mentor others in the organization
Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments
Identify need for technical and program reviews
Lead technical and program reviews and participate as a reviewer
Remain current in the state of the art within your own technical specialty
Participate in Design Reviews and create and review proper technical documentation consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Provide technical leadership on complex problems and proactively develop creative solutions in manufacturing, technology, and engineering
Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
At least 4 years of experience in embedded development and design.
At least 6 additional years of experience in an electrical or electronics engineering position
Desired Characteristics
Experience designing and integrating electronics, electrical systems, instrumentation, or sensors
Experience in SoC designs, development, and applications
Experience in precision measurement systems, signal processing, analog-to-digital conversion, and front-end data acquisition
Experience in Verilog and FPGA application development and implementations
Skilled in system-level integration and data acquisition
In-depth understanding of engineering technology and tools
Ability and desire to teach and mentor
Experience in owning and executing technology roadmaps and developing and maturing state-of-the-art systems
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to clearly communicate complex and technical issues to diverse audiences
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Ability to guide and influence others
Successful experience working with multi-functional engineering teams to solve complex problems
Demonstrated analytical skills
Demonstrated project management skills
