Estimator opportunity at Triad Fabricators

Triad Fabricators, based in Evansville, Indiana, was formed by consolidating three legacy fabrication shops; Traylor Bros. (founded in 1946), Sterling Industrial (founded in 1982), and Traylor Industrial (founded in 1984).

Position Summary:

Generates quotations based on estimates of labor, materials, special processes, and documentation requirements for a varying range of complex technical opportunities by reviewing the scope of work, codes, specifications, drawings, and other relevant requirements. Communicates with customers, internal resources, vendors, and subcontractors to research, determine and estimate the cost to manufacture the opportunity within the defined parameters and prescribed time frames. Achieves defined order booking goals through converting offered quotations into purchase orders.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Manages customer expectations through communication of capabilities, capacities, lead times and follow up on offered quotations.

  • Reviews and comprehends scope of work (SOW), customer requirements, specifications, codes and standards, customer terms and conditions to identify required resources to satisfy the project requirements.

  • Distills SOW data to prepare and estimate preliminary manufacturing routings consisting of labor operations, material requirements, subcontracted services and all other cost associated with the SOW.

  • Identifies and accounts for poorly defined requirements and high-risk activities and processes.

  • Communicates with customer to obtain clarification of all missing or unclear requirements.

  • Acquires and applies costs of materials and subcontracted operations through direct contact with vendors or communicating pricing support needs to internal resources.

  • Confers with internal supporting resources (manufacturing, procurement, scheduling, quality control programming and engineering) to determine and review the project requirements.

  • Generates detailed estimates of cost for the labor, materials, special processes, testing, inspection, and documentation requirements needed to perform the SOW.

  • Prepares detailed quotation documentation for submittal to the customer. Describes in detail the inclusions, substitutions, and exclusions of the offer.

  • Prepares and submits the requisite documentation, responses and proposals prescribed in the quotation submittal requirements.

  • Performs follow up activities to gain status of offered quotations to determine probability of converting the quote into a purchase order.

  • Reviews awarded purchase orders against quotations to verify that offered schedule commitments, funding parameters, scope of work and exceptions taken match.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients to ensure repeat business and customer satisfaction.

  • Prepare and deliver accurate sales quotes, process customer orders, and ensure timely follow-up on all sales inquiries and leads.

  • Provide customers with detailed information about the shop's products and services, offering tailored solutions to meet their fabrication needs.

  • Develop meaningful relationships with customers to encourage trust and loyalty.

  • Follow up on cold and warm leads to further the sales process.

    Education/Experience

  • Associate’s degree or relevant certification in estimating, project management, or a related experience.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an estimator in the fabrication or construction industry.

  • Proven experience with estimating software and tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.

  • Experience with cost analysis, budgeting, and pricing strategies.

  • Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations.

  • Familiarity with materials, labor costs, and subcontractor pricing.

  • Previous experience in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines preferred.

    Physical Demands

  • Travel will be required to attend training and meetings.

  • Ability to sit or stand for an entire shift

  • Occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

  • Work in a fabrication shop environment.

  • Ability to speak, write, and understand English clearly.
