Department Summary

The Division of Student Life supports the university’s academic mission through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to serve as the primary initial professional staff contact for the Office of the Dean of Students and to provide exceptional customer service and front desk/receptionist coverage. This work, which often includes handling sensitive confidential information and responding in times of crisis, occurs primarily during regular weekday working hours and entails greeting the public who visit the office in person and answering the main office telephone line, responding to or referring visitors and callers, as appropriate.

This position also provides support to the office for a wide range of triage and administrative functions. The person in this position must be dependable, possess excellent judgment to make independent decisions, prioritize work, and be able to respond to student, parent, and community needs effectively and calmly including crisis referrals. This position is responsible for the supervision and training of approximately 5 student employees and will report to the Executive Assistant to the Dean of Students & HR Coordinator.

This position is responsible for initiating and responding to Office of the Dean of Students community building and outreach requests, planning engagement opportunities, and offering educational resources for our services and programming. This position implements activities, events, and other efforts to accomplish the strategic plans of the Division of Student Life and the Office of the Dean of Students.

The individual hired for this position must be dedicated to fostering meaningful connections and creating a supportive environment, exercising interpersonal skills.

This position is in-person with limited ability to work remotely.

Minimum Requirements

• Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other generation of documents;

OR

• An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology;

OR

• Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.

College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

• Demonstrated record of dependability, accountability, proficiency, and confidentiality.

• Demonstrated proficiency with standard office equipment and business applications, including multi-line telephones, emails, calendaring, and communications software.

• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

• Experience with or commitment to a diverse and inclusive, team-oriented work environment.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple demands in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.

• Demonstrated ability to make decisions using sound judgment and sensitivity in high stress or emergency situations.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster meaningful connections and create a supportive environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.

• Experience as a front-desk receptionist in a fast-paced office environment.

• Experience working in a student service office in a higher education environment.

• Experience dealing with emergency or crisis situations.
